You know, communication is so important in a marriage. If you're a demonic poison butterfly with a thirst for human blood, you owe it to your partner to be honest and disclose that sort of thing. It's basic respect, people!

It’s another bright sunny morning for Tang Qianyue. 

She owns a successful rouge shop and has a doting husband- the very handsome military general Ling Changfeng.

But Tang Qianyue has a secret. She may not be as human as she first appears. 

Well, Ling Changfeng, that's what you get when you marry the only survivor of a village that was slaughtered by the evil, poison-loving Butterfly Clan. C'mon guy, didn't you ever see Painted Skin?

Tang Qianyue and her husband go out to enjoy the lantern festival but their date night is ruined by the murderous Butterfly Clan who have disguised themselves as the Hua Cheng Dancers, right down to the silver butterfly masks, bells and red umbrellas. 

In the ensuing fracas, Tang Qianyue is attacked (or is she?) and when Ling Chanfeng comes to her rescue she helps herself to his jugular. Ouch!

But it turns out that was all just a bad dream... or was it?

Wang Ruolin, whom you may remember as the world's worst sugar daddy Zhao Jing from Word of Honor.

Smile Hu as Si Xiaonian and Yang Ze as Yan Wuming from The Killer Is Also Romantic because they are reprising their roles! It's set in the same universe!

The Good

This is great- spooky, atmospheric and the plot is really interesting so far.

The music is surprisingly good

Episodes are only 20 min long and there are only 22 of them.

I found a post on Wang Ruo Lin’s Weibo, talking about a deleted scene that was supposed to be in the finale. I don’t think I’ve seen it translated yet so here it is:

The ending is coming soon. Like an avalanche, all is peaceful again. 

Regretfully, the scene I was waiting for was cut in the end. Scorpion lifted the curtain of the palanquin, and asked his father if he was cold. He covered him with a blanket. And Zhao Jing, smiling slightly, gave him an affectionate and gratified smile. That look was reserved for goodness in the world, it was fulfilment. I had come to the end of my life. This was where we ended. A glance conveyed ten thousand years worth of thoughts. After that glance, I would leave this world. The most complete ending that has no end… 

Therefore, I’m sorry.  Like snow, I would like to be still. When the avalanche came down, I became a lonely soul… Maybe I fell too deep. I can no longer differentiate between Zhao Jing and myself, myself and Zhao Jing. 

Without that one glance, I don’t know. Scorpion, at the glacier, could you hear your father’s farewell? 

In the original script, when the avalanche came, Scorpion came and tried to save me, but was buried instantly. 

My plan was to use a meaningful glance and use my final breath to tell him to flee, tell him to leave me. But because cuts had to be made, or because there wasn’t enough time to flesh everything out, you’re presented with what you see today. 

Nonetheless, as actors, we make our characters as well-rounded as possible. It isn’t for us to decide what’s in the final cut.
