A new Manhattan nightclub, the Carnival, is thronged with patrons, February 22, 1945. The new club opened as nightclub owners began to organize a protest against War Mobilization Director James F. Byrnes's request for a midnight curfew on such venues. They were unsuccessful, but the war in Europe ended two months later.

Mobilizing the People Posters

These five posters were produced by the US government during WWII to encourage Americans to support the war effort.

“Whenever I hear anyone saying, ‘The American people are complacent . . . I feel like asking him to come to Washington to read the mail that floods into the White House . . . . The one question that recurs through all of these thousands of letters and messages is, ‘What more can I do to help my country in winning this war?’”
