➳A/n: I’m bringing this back! :3 DoctorNamjoon!au mature idk what you’d call this. Warning, some mental\phsycological issues come up.
Teaser!
➳Summary: You’re appointed assistant for Doctor Kim Namjoon in the asylum/hospital and he doesn’t take lightly to your misconduct.
“So, um...Do you have any concerns? Are you comfortable?" You held a pen between your thumb and index finger while you looked at him and your clipboard. You don't know why Namjoon decided to leave you in here by yourself. Especially since you've never dealt with patients like this.
"How armbe you?" He leaned back with a grin plastered on his face.
"I'm fine, thank you but-"
"I want to know about you, why don't you tell me about yourself..." He leaned forward and you quickly got up, he chuckled.
"Jimin. I have to follow protocol and rate your comfort level every other day. So, are you comfortable?" You stood straight, awaiting his response.
"Yes, I'm comfortable." He sighed, pouting his lips.
"Good." You smiled satisfied with his answer. "I'll come check on you later." You wrote down a few other things before leaving the room in search of Namjoon. You locked the room door soundlessly and peeked around the corner. Where is he? You were hoping he didn't go on break and not tell you anything.
"Dr. Kim, I just finished checking on-” You paused, seeing as he had his index finger up to stop you. Slowly you entered the room, being as quiet as possible, you've been scolded twice for being ‘loud’. You watched as he was standing in front of the large island with all the test tubes, papers, and books with complete focus.
How could someone be so—you don't even know how to explain it. It was obvious he didn't want you here but now that you are here he should at least try to adjust.
“Yes?” He looked up waiting for you to state your reason for being here.
“I checked on the patient and wrote down his status like you said.”
“Let me see.” He held out his hand for the clipboard, you quickly walked over to hand it to him. His eyes skimmed over your detailed notes and he sat the clipboard on his desk. “Good. Now, go to the lab and turn it in.” He pointed to the door, making you leave once again. You already knew he wasn’t fond of your being here but could he make it any more obvious and petty? This is the third time today he’s kept you from staying in his office with him, it was starting to get suspicious.
You ran up the stairs to avoid staying in the elevator with someone you’d feel inclined to speak to, the labs were only a floor up so you could use the walking. When you made it to the labs you gave the report to the people at the front and left to go back to the office. You scurried out of the lab and you thought you’d explore a little bit. Namjoon told you to make sure you were prepared to be here at odd hours sometimes so you figured you’d get accustomed to the institute. You wondered around, there were 12 floors, 4 for labs, 2 for offices and 6 for patients. Namjoon was on the 9th floor in sector 94, the patients he cared for were Blue Cases, as he liked to call them. You weren’t sure what that meant but you just played it off like you did. And that was your first day. You wondered if it was always going to be like this.
*
Today was your second day and you went to the front desk to sign in and get the badge they printed for you, you were official now. You made sure to get here earlier so Namjoon wouldn’t have anything to criticize you about. You walked into the elevator and pressed nine, you heard a person rushing to get in.
“Hold the door please!” You were sure you knew who it was so you stuck your arm between the slowly closing doors to give him an opportunity to run in, it was Dr. Kim Seokjin. “Thanks.” He smiled and the doors closed.
“Dr. Kim, good morning, what floor?” You bowed, a shy smile coming to your lips when he bowed back.
“Eleven, you’re assigned to Namjoon, aren’t you?”
“Yes.” By the change in his expression, you were reminded that they were schoolmates and good friends. Before you knew it the elevator stopped on the 9th floor and your fate settled in. You bid him farewell and made your way to Namjoon’s office/lab.
When you walked inside he was leveling out medicine, he was about to see another patient, today he was wearing his white lab coat. He noticed you walking in but didn’t acknowledge you yet, he was too focused on the task at hand. You quietly walked towards him and waited for him to say something, he glanced at you.
“Good morning, is there anything you’d like me to do?” You tight lip grinned, feeling nervous as he gazed at you through his glasses.
“You’re early,” He commented more to himself, “go get an empty syringe.” He pointed to the drawers and you scurried over to get it for him in a frenzy.
“Here you go.” You handed it to him and his slender fingers reached for the instrument and began to fill it with the medicine, you watched diligently and he tapped the syringe, leveling it.
“We’re going to see a patient.” He chuckled to himself, putting the medicine along with pills in a tray and handing it to you. “I’ll teach you how to give him his medicine.” Without further explanation, he began to walk off and you followed him. “He’s on the 7th floor.” Namjoon went towards the staircase and you passed a few people, they looked at you oddly for a second, they weren’t used to seeing Namjoon accompanied very often.
“Can I please look at his file?” He had the clipboard in his hand but he let you look at it, to warn you of what you were about to walk in.
Name: Kim Taehyung
Age: 22
Illnesses: Borderline Personality Disorder, Psychotic, Suffers from traumatic childhood experience. Can turn violent. A new discovery: Doesn’t understand the concept of others feeling the pain inflicted by himself.
Status since the last dosage: Finiky, irritable and angry. Two pills, one injection. Tame.
“Is this all?” It was odd, you had never seen a file like this.
“It’s all you’re gonna see for right now.” He promptly scanned his access card over the scanner and it flashed green while the sliding door opened. This room was the polar opposite of Jimin’s, it was dark, colors on the walls and his bed disheveled as he ate a bowl of strawberries, he was staring at the bowl sadly...how odd. When the patient let out a shaky exhale you remembered that Namjoon told you not to act nervous in front of Jimin so you assumed the same applied to this patient as well. So, you stood calmly, waiting for Namjoon’s instruction.
“Taehyung.” Namjoon was looking at some papers and taking the medicine from you to set it aside. “It’s time for your medicine.”
“Who is that?” He looked at you then at Namjoon.
“I’m Y/n, I’m new here.” You smiled.
His eyes scrutinized your being here. He set the bowl aside and scooted to sit on the edge, still staring at you with cold eyes. You had to remain calm and unphased even if his gaze began to make you uneasy.
“She is going to help me administer your medicine.” Namjoon handed you the syringe and you froze, you’ve never done this before and this patient doesn’t know and apparently doesn’t care that much for you, judging off the way he looked at you. “I’ll be right back with your request for more fruit.” No, no, no, no, why couldn't he make you go get the fruit? Why would he leave you in here unsupervised? As soon as he walked out you awkwardly smiled at the guy on the bed. He stared up at the ceiling, then at the walls and back to the ceiling.
You just stood there, holding the medicine in your blue-gloved hands. Suddenly you flinched when the loud bang and shattering of a ceramic bowl took you from your thoughts. You weren’t sure what you were supposed to do, or say. He fidgeted his fist clenching and unclenching on there own accord. Your stance wavered a bit but you remained calm.
“Is there something wrong Taehyung?” You slowly approached his bedside and he glared up at you, looking as if he wanted to murder you. You didn’t dare extend your hand, in fear that he might lash out at you physically.
“Why are you here?!” His brows were furrowed deeply and he shot out of bed, shouting at you. “Did they send you? They keep sending people, they keep sending people I don’t like...I don’t want the medicine, it makes me see things...” A look of fear flashed across his face when he mentioned his medicine, he sat back on the bed and he was completely silent, and calm. You wondered what thoughts were running through his head, what thoughts could make him calm all of a sudden? Maybe he had no thoughts.
“They keep sending people...” He said that sort of like a child but with venom laced in his voice.
“I got your fruit Taehyung.” Namjoon finally came back and you sighed in relief. “I know how upset it makes you when it’s late.” That’s why he was angry? Wow, that was unexpected. Namjoon sort of chuckled and smirked at you, he saw the whole exchange on the monitors, he wanted to observe your interactions. It was sort of a test, you failed. Namjoon saw the broken bowl on the floor and sighed, just a few minutes earlier and the poor bowl could’ve been saved.
“Give us one-second Taehyung.” Namjoon suddenly grabbed your arm and pulled you to the corner near the door. You were like a deer in the headlights when he took off his glasses and rubbed his temples.
“I was watching you on the monitors, why did you freeze like that?” He scolded.
“I- You said you were going to teach me how to give him medicine but then you leave me with an unstable patient that doesn’t even know me.”
He crooked his brow. “Did you think this was a children's hospital? We don’t have innocent little patients.” He said sarcastically, leaving you to stare a the empty space where he used to be. “Get over here.”
You were piping hot but you followed him nonetheless. Taehyung ate quietly but when Namjoon approached him he frowned.
“I don’t want my medicine.” He mumbled.
“We go through this everyday Taehyung, you know what happens when you refuse. Taji doesn’t take kindly to it.” Namjoon used that word as a threat and it immediately made Taehyung docile, he swallowed.
“Give him the pills and I’ll give the injection.” He whispered to you and you nodded.
“Here you go.” You extended your hands, a glass of water in one and a pill in the other. He took the three pills and popped it into his mouth before chugging it down with some water. He squeezed his eyes shut and swallowed, setting the glass on the nightstand beside him. Namjoon wore his blue gloves as well as he tapped the syringe. He cleaned Taehyungs arm with an alcohol swab and positioned the needle, jabbing it into the skin. It was quick and not as painful judging by the look on Taehyungs face, he was completely blank.
“Good.” Namjoon praised but in a matter of seconds, Taehyung’s eyelids got heavy and he didn’t fight the fatigue, he fell back on the bed pillows, eyes drifting towards you before completely passing out.
“He doesn’t take the injection so easy, sometimes he just passes out.” Namjoon put the syringe in the pan and you followed him as he walked out the door to write on his file. “Hyperactive, annoyed, a little violent because of our new little friend...” He continued to write. “Take those to the bins and come to room 93 without acting like an unprofessional.” The both of you disposed of your gloves and you nodded, he could tell you were getting annoyed by the fact that he wasn’t making this very tolerable.
“Oh, and bring a bucket of ice.” You nodded and went on your way, a bucket of ice? You were gonna question him but you just decided to do what he said and be done with it.
Before you walked into the patient's room you looked over his file first.
Name: Min Yoongi
Age: 24
Illnesses: Pyromaniac. Extreme rise and fall of body temperatures. Arson. Calm but dangerous when angry.
Status since the last dosage: Calm, Compliant, annoyed. One injection.Tame.
He looks like fun, you thought to yourself as you sat the file back in the file holder on the wall.
“I have the ice.” You walked into the room and it’s cool temperature, you got goosebumps as soon as you walked in. The patient was lying there while Namjoon stood at his side, glancing back at you.
“Come here, look at this.” Namjoon beckoned you to come to stand beside him, you walked over to him with the heavy bucket.
“What is it?” You looked up at him.
“Look at his shirt, it’s completely dry but touch his hand.” You sat the bucket down and pressed your finger to his hand and recoiled.
“He’s burning up...what is this?-”
“He’s a supernatural case. He can’t control the rise or fall of his body temperature when he sleeps. It can go from 50 to 120 in a matter of minutes, he has control only when he’s conscious. Have you never heard of this type of supernatural condition? He’s used it as arson on many occasions, the law didn’t take too lightly to a supernatural pyromaniac.”
“Oh, so, what’s the ice for?”
“Is it not obvious?” You furrowed your brows, wondering what he was going to say. “The ice forces him back into a normal body temperature when he’s hot like this. I do this so I can give him an injection while his body is regular.”
“Oh.” You looked down at the patient and the way he slept was odd, it was like he wasn’t breathing like he was dead.
“Take that ice and pour it on him.” Now it just felt like he was playing with you, making you do stuff that he normally wouldn’t but you had to do as he said, even if it was strange. You lifted the large bucket and began to pour it all over that guy and he didn’t even flinch, he was still asleep.
“He’s not-”
“Keep pouring.” He cooed, walked over to bring a towel to Yoongi's bedside. “He’ll wake up soon.”
Suddenly, the man's eyes began to open and immediately his eyes shot to you, sending a chill down your spine.
“Good morning Yoongi.” Namjoon grinned seeing that Yoongi wasn’t even the slightest bit shocked by the freezing cold temperature. “How are you?”
“Who is this?” He sat up, shaking some of the water of fire of his hands.
“Y/n, she’s my- She’s new...” He said that last part with a tinge of animosity, he still hadn’t gotten over the fact that you were working with him and he wanted to do anything in his power to scare you off of this job, or at least scare you a little bit. He peered at you but only for a short while before his cheeks got noticeably red, tomato red.
“His face flushes whenever his bodies temperature is trying to adjust...” Namjoon mumbled. “He takes the injection in his neck but we’re here for something else.” Namjoon began setting up the medical instrument away and you noticed Yoongi was miraculously dry, there was still a bit of water on his bed but he was far from drenched with water. It was hard not to get absorbed in the fascinating things these patients do, it was astounding. His body must’ve evaporated the water...
You smiled, trying to see if he’d warm up to you if you spoke up. You cleared your throat, cleaning his neck with a cotton small cloth, you could’ve sworn you heard the wet cloth sizzle upon contact.
“I don’t think you need an injection this soon, you’re actually doing good,” Namjoon commented. “But I did want to introduce you to Y/n, she’ll be showing up quite often so you might as well get to know her. I have something to do then I’ll be on my lunch break. Y/n will write your status.” With that, he left once again.
“Okay...” You cleared your throat. “How do you feel?”
“Who sent you?”
First Taehyung, now him?
“No one- What do you mean who sent me?”
“You really are new...I’m fine by the way, you can go.” He was one of the only patients who had more living space, so he went towards what you presumed was his extra lounge type area and you saw that as your queue to leave.
You wrote down a few things before leaving to go on your lunch break. As you left the room you were thinking, what kind of job did I sign up for? You didn’t remember seeing this in the job description. Nursing patients who were very capable of hurting you. You weren’t even sure who these people really were, or why supernatural cases even came to be. You decided it would be better if you just left it alone for right now, even if Namjoon wouldn’t give you more details you’d find out in time.
You had heard from a few assistants that the cafeteria was mainly for the interns and assistants rather than the doctors. For some odd reason, you smiled at the thought of being away from Namjoon for a while.
“Y/n, come sit over here.” Hana waved you over as she saw you grabbing a sandwich and some chips.
You ran over to her and smiled. “Hey Hana,” You sat right across from her, setting up your sandwich, chips, and juice. “how has your morning been?”
“Pretty good, I’ve just been serving breakfast to the patients on my floor and checking their status. How about you? How was your first real day with ‘Dr. I work alone.” She laughed, taking a big gulp of her grapefruit juice.
“Well,” You tight-lip grinned awkwardly, “I almost gave someone an injection today...after he threw a bowl at the wall while I was in there by myself.” You huffed in frustration. “What kind of doctor does that to someone on the first day? It’s ridiculous.” As you angrily at your sandwich you thought about all the years of schooling it took to get here and now you’re being disrespected and treated like some kid.
“What patient was it?” She laughed, covering her mouth to muffle her laughter.
“You know I can’t discuss that. That’s a HIPPA violation, remember?” You couldn’t understand how she could ask that these patients were entitled to their privacy.
“You know that doesn’t apply to these patients, right? Their conditions are open for research and can be freely talked about from what I’ve heard.”
“But still, they’re still people and entitled to privacy-”
“Y/n, your break is over. Let’s go.” Namjoon arrived in the nick of time, that cocky look still plastered on his face as he walked out and you were flabbergasted.
“Is he serious? I sit down for one minute and that’s my lunch break? What kind of nonsense,” You grumbled, snatching the remains of your trash and mumbling insults. “I can’t stand that man.” You bid Hana farewell and went up the stairs, you were attempting to calm yourself down but you just didn’t understand it. When you entered the room, you just about went off. He was sitting in his little lounge by the window and eating lunch. You had to say something.
“Excuse me Doctor, but how come I couldn’t stay my whole lunch break?” You walked towards him, but not getting too close. “There is no work for me to do right now and I was in the middle of a conversation.”
“I have two patients who are being checked in that we need to observe. And I’m you’re superior, so you follow orders like any other assistant. If you don’t stop questioning everything I say I’m gonna make your time here miserable.” He picked up his teacup to take a sip and you almost lunged at him but then one of the nurses knocked on the door.
“Sorry to interrupt,” he peeked in, “but they’re here, and the one-way mirror room is ready.”
“Okay, give us a minute.” Namjoon went to the door and closed it, glaring at you. He walked up to you slowly, massaging his temples as he let out another exasperated sigh. “I don’t want to hear another thing from you, Y/L/N, or I swear I’ll make this job a living hell. Understand?” He crooked his brow and waited for your response.
You crossed your arms. “Fine.”
He rolled his eyes and walked down the hall, quickly disappearing from your sight. You had to follow him regardless so you made your way down to the 5th floor where patients were admitted. You had only heard about the one-way mirror room before, you’ve never seen it before. If it was used to observe patients, how come they never told you anything about it? Before you knew it you were standing in front of the door that entered the room. When you hesitantly walked in you saw a feeble other people observing through the dark room. You scurried over to sit right beside Namjoon as the room on the other side was empty.
“They’re bringing him in now. He is prone to lashing out so keep that in mind.” You heard someone murmur from the back. You watched carefully, your heart beating faster due to the suspense of whoever was being brought in.
He was striking, his features were that of a sculpture. His hair was red and it caught your attention immediately, they had somebody of the most unique looking patients. You squinted, he sat in front of two evaluators. There were speakers in the room so you were able to hear the things said to the patient. One of them held up a white piece of paper with black splatters on it.
“What do you see?”
“Nothing.” He retorted in a curt tone.
It was quite obvious that he could see the paper so this was just average resistance. He had an aura similar to Yoongi but it wasn’t a lot different, like night and day almost. They asked him a series of questions, and he chose to answer a select few. It was funny how they continued to ask questions even when he looked like he wanted to flip the table and leave.
“I’m not answering these stupid questions!” He went wide-eyed and shouted, almost getting up to walk out. After that, they figured it was time to stop and they gently escorted him out of the room.
“That was quick.” You mumbled to yourself. The next patient was ushered into the white room, a starry look on his face. He had a pretty appearance about him, his features were intriguing and his doe eyes wouldn’t allow you to look away. You saw that everyone in the room had written something down, presumably his name or something along the lines of that.
“Do you know why you’re here, Jungkook?” The woman asked.
He was looking down at his lap, twiddling his fingers as he sat as if she had said nothing. You furrowed your brows, wondering why he hadn’t properly acknowledged her.
“Did they tell you why you’re here?”
He was silent.
“Do you know that you’re sick?” She said that a bit softer and he looked up at her before looking down at the table.
“He’s mute by choice it looks like...” You heard someone behind you say. You observed him, he looked completely normal so you couldn’t imagine what was wrong with him. Suddenly, the woman gave him a paper and pencil, to get him to answer but he just glanced at it. To your surprise, she and the other evaluator left him in the room. He just sat there, eyes drifting from side to side, sometimes catching your gaze. You were sure he couldn’t see you since it was one-way glass—but he gave you a weird feeling.
“We should get their quarters situated.” Namjoon stood up and looked at you, you knitted your brows in anticipation of what he was going to say. “Y/N, stay here and take notes on his isolated behavior.” Before you could even say anything, e was rushing out of the room and so was everyone else. “Come to me when you’re done.
“Perfect.” You groaned sarcastically as you decided to sit back and get comfortable. In hindsight, this wasn’t so bad. You got to watch someone just sit there and write stuff down, it was easy enough. You still found it creepy that he didn’t know who was behind this glass looking at him, it made you feel bad for his rights to privacy.
He had picked up the pencil a few minutes ago and started to sketch. His hands were moving fast and you were wondering what he was drawing, and why he looked so focused on whatever it was. You got up to stand in front of the mirror, getting a better look at him—what is he doing?
Suddenly he stopped drawing and just sat there until standing to his feet, startling you a bit.
He was now staring directly at you—but that’s impossible, he couldn’t see you... The closer he got, the more you started to question the glasses ability to keep you hidden. With the paper still in his hand, he slowly approached the glass, he was so close that there was no way it was a coincidence. The freaky thing is, he took the paper and pressed it to the mirror—you got chills instantly. This was too creepy, there was no way...
“C-can you see me?” You stuttered. You knew he couldn’t hear you but you were kind of thinking out loud.
He nodded softly. The picture he held in his hand was a sketch of your face, to the T, how was this even possible?...
Your mouth hung open in shock and you slowly stepped away from the mirror. Like a prayer answered, the nurses came to take him away and he was still staring at you but the others were oblivious to it. When the room was cleared out you ran in to inspect the paper that he had dropped before being taken away.
And under the strikingly similar portrait to your face was one number.
So I made a psychiatric AU for Persona 4!
What they’re in for is under the cut (plus a bonus drawing)!
Souji has been in for delusions and has been the longest resident of the group. He remembers the bad ends of P4 basically, and any timeline that Yosuke had killed himself. It’s hard for him to differentiate reality from his delusions and he suffers nightmares and poor social skills. Basically he’s New Game+ Souji!
Yosuke is in for severe depression and anxiety, and having attempted suicide. He is also the newest resident to the ward. Having a lack of notable friends with self-esteem issues and the weight of potentially feeling like he killed Saki who drank herself to death with her parents liquor store pushed him over the edge.
Kanji is in for getting in trouble at school and with the law. He is notably on the high functioning spectrum of autism with tempermental issues and ADHD. Special interest are sewing, hand crafts and cute things.
Chie is in for dysphoria and overworking herself to the point of sickness, also bullying at school for being pre-transitioning MtF trans.
Yukiko is in for a severe eating disorder and possible self harm. Having gotten so bad to the point of fainting during school and work at her family’s inn was recognized and she needed to be watched and taken care.
Rise is in for mental breakdowns, having chopped off her hair and threatening to throw herself into danger. Overstressing herself and with a possible personality disorder, she’s more like a shell of herself in the ward.
Naoto is in for dysphoria and since their grandfather had passed, they were also getting in trouble with the police by getting into things they shouldn’t have. Notably on the high functioning spectrum with a special interest in crime novels and investigation.
Teddie is a volunteer who used to be a patient himself! He refers to himself in the third person most of the time, and sometimes makes jabs at past experiences in previous timelines which puts Souji on edge because Teddie doesn’t seem to see the fault in knowing things he hasn’t even experienced in present timelines.
Bonus:
They have a lot of time to just play board games so when they do, they get REALLY into it lmao
Mikasa fully considering the courting bc she knows what she and Eren have won’t last, he has duties, and she is complacent in preventing him from completing them.
man she probably starts pulling away from eren because she doesn't want to make this harder but eren will not let her go. he'll die if he has to let her go. she can't become someone else's because he can't never be anyone else's.
Mikasa telling Eren she thinks Mister Galliard is intelligent makes great conversation the following day when she’s being poked and prodded about her multiple soirées on the floor with the man when he chimes in asking what she thinks of him
Anyways they then make-out out later that day in a corner of the library where he’s asking her ab what Mister Galliard would think of another man’s lips already having been on hers
HOT!
she practically gushes about him. not in a romantic way but how nice it is to converse with someone so kind and thoughtful. and she barely remembers the others because they weren't worth remembering.
and then yes they're making out later and he's basically teasing her about it because she can speak to him all day, but they both know who really has her.
Handsome and smart oh Eren knows that man’s charms too and he would in fact make a great husband to Mikasa
Asking her if she enjoyed her dances with the Galliards with his face all hardened when it’s his turn (it’s only natural as they are dear friends)
oh man yes! maybe they actually officially start courting! and mikasa thinks he's wonderful and if she wasn't already in love with eren, she would've been happy to marry marcel.
but yes, when eren cuts in the second he thinks marcel is getting to comfortable.
