Later that evening, Damian caught Sora as he was getting ready to leave the party.
Damian: “Hey man, don’t leave your bestie without saying goodbye!”
Sora: “Of course not, I was coming to find you! You were just the fastest.”
Damian (laughing): “Hahaaa, I won’t be the fastest on the slopes though. I’m jealous, man... Professional snowboarder!”
Sora (smiling): “Yup, can’t wait!”
Damian (frowning): “So, eh... Did you talk to my sister?”
Sora (sighing): “Yeah, I did... Look, man... I think you were wrong... She took it all very easily... I don’t think she sees me like that, you know... I don’t think she’s even gonna notice I’m gone...”
Damian (surprised): “Aww, man, really? I was so sure, like she never looks at me when we’re talking about you... I had this vibe... I really thought she was into you.”
Sora (shrugging): “Nope, I guess she thinks I’m just her Lil’ Bro’s bestie, that’s all... I... I suppose it’s a good thing I’m leaving...”
Damian: “Hey man, I’m sorry, I really am... Good looking and nice guy like you, she’s missing out, you know! Anyway, have you said goodbye?”
Sora (shaking his head in defeat): “Nah, can’t find her... Maybe it’s better... It’s easier anyway... Tell her I said goodbye, will you?”
Damian: “She’s probably fled the club, too many sims... I’m surprised she stayed as long as she did. Take care, man, I’ll miss my snow bro!”
While Damian hugged Sora, Jade was indeed no longer in the nightclub. Right after her chat with Sora, she’d felt so overwhelmed, that she straight up walked out of the club and didn’t stop walking until she found herself in a small park right in the centre of Del Sol Valley (she didn’t have to walk far though). The park was deserted at that hour, but she found little comfort in solitude this time. She sighed, fighting the tears that were stinging in her eyes. Then she sank to ground to lay on her back. Stargazing always soothed her mind, and she felt how her heartbeat slowed down, while she let her tears flow freely.
When the cake was cut and everyone had received a piece, Sora sat down next to Jade.
Sora (smiling): “Hey Jade, Damian told me you baked this cake. It’s really good!”
Jade (smiling, feeling a little too happy with this small compliment): “Aww, thanks. It’s the first time I baked a sugar-free cake, you know!”
Sora (surprised): “Sugar-free? You don’t say! I didn’t even notice! Wow, what a baker!”
Jade (smiling, but suddenly a little uncomfortable as Sora wasn’t the person to keep complimenting someone): “Yeah, thanks...”
Jade, not knowing how to behave, started to eat her cake, concentrating on her plate and fork.
Sora (biting his lip, taking a breath): “So eh... Gotta tell you something...”
Jade (feeling her heartbeat going faster, trying desperately to focus on her cake): “Oh?”
Sora: “Yeah, so... I’m moving to Mt. Komorebi tomorrow.”
Jade (dropping her piece of cake back on her plate): “Oh, eh, wow... That’s... Nice?”
Mt. Komorebi? Tomorrow? Jade felt her throat squeeze and she found it harder to breath. She pinned the fallen piece of cake back on her fork and put it in her mouth as fast as she could, hoping the cake would somehow force her throat to open up again.
Sora: “Yeah, you know, uni isn’t for me... And I met this girl when we were on holiday over there, Kaori... She’s into snowboarding, like professionally and she said her team was looking for new members. I got in... It’s really exciting!”
Jade (breathless): “Wow, super exciting! Professional snowboarding and shit! You’re gonna do great, I’m sure!”
A girl? Jade felt how her stomach squeezed into a tight, hard knot. She forced the rest of her cake down her throat into a stomach that wasn’t receptive at all. She tried to smile at Sora while he told her about the training and how excited he was to live on his own in a town he knew so little of as he was bored of San Myshuno...
But Jade didn’t really hear what Sora was saying. She felt numb, staring at this young man she had known for almost her entire life. A man she had shared so many laughs and great, sometimes embarrassing moments with, but to whom she just couldn’t say what she really felt. She wanted to lean forward and kiss him, feel his arms around her like when they hugged on New Year’s Eve. But she couldn't.
When Sora had finished his cake, Jade just smiled and started to clean up their plates, saying, as bubbly as she could: “Well, go and dance some more before you gotta leave! See you later then!”
Damian celebrated his birthday with a party at the Warehouse 31 nightclub in Del Sol Valley. He had invited his friends to dance the night away with him and dance they did (even Jade, for a short while at least). Of course, Damian would regularly interrupt his dancing moves to pull his girlfriend close for a long kiss.
At some point the guests started to gather around the dj’s turntables on the stage. Damian moved closer to Sora while dancing and poked his best friend in the ribs with his elbow.
Damian (trying to be heard over the dancing music): “Hey man, you having fun?”
Sora (also trying to be heard over the loud music): “Sure I am, great nightclub! Shame I have to get up early...”
Damian: “Speaking of that... You know you have to tell my sister, right?”
Sora (nodding): “Yup... Thought the cake moment would be a good time...”
Damian: “In that case: bring on the cake!”
Damian’s friends gathered around the bar where Jade had placed the birthday cake she had made for her brother. Damian had nodded to her with appreciation and placed the birthday candles. Cheered on by his friends and random night club sims, he blew out the candles and aged up into a young adult.

I'm going to Warehouse 31 for Valentine's Day next weekend
Maybe I won't be that upset, then. Idek why i let Valentine's Day get to me, because I know it really doesn't matter. Hrmph.
Hot clowns will cure me.
I survived night one.
