Only a few more days to visit ‘Divine’ at the Loewe Foundation as part of PhotoEspaña! Pictured here and on view: Divine, New York City, 1977 👄 see our stories for some never before seen Polaroids from this series From the curatorial statements: [this] exhibition of photography, illustration and film is honouring an indomitable icon of queer culture, Harris Glenn Milstead - better known by his stage name, Divine. Even in his art of drag, Divine defied the rules. His aesthetic rejected a glamorised, elegant vision of femininity, opting instead for the filthy and the trashy. Divine was sexy yet terrifying at the same time, blurring the boundaries between the desirable and the grotesque. This challenge to the acceptable, normative body subverted conventions of beauty in a way that felt tremendously liberating for audiences. As Waters put it, Divine ‘exaggerated what everybody hated, turned it into a style - and won.’ #antoniolopez #divine #drag #dragqueen #arthistory #fashionhistory #queerhistory #pride2021 (at Madrid, Spain) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQWTYLoAZgQ/?utm_medium=tumblr

IN THE NEWS: Jeremy Scott in @i_d talking about what he did during lockdown : “I love watching documentaries and especially love when it has to do with fashion. ‘Antonio Lopez 1970: Sex, Fashion & Disco’ is about one of the best fashion illustrators, who not only created amazing art work but, behind the scenes, was a real creative driving force with some of fashion’s major players. Beyond creating images in illustration and photography, he also created models, and iconic ones at that: Jerry Hall, Grace Jones, Jessica Lange, Tina Chow, Donna Jordan, Pat Cleveland. The film also includes the last interview with photographer and fashion chronicler Bill Cunningham – if you have not seen his documentary ‘Bill Cunningham New York’, that is also a must. I would also recommend reading The Beautiful Fall by Alicia Drake. If you love fashion, you must know its history and what better time to give yourself a history lesson than now!” https://www.instagram.com/p/CDzPUFngOJh/?igshid=enqccv1z1jmv
