It's also worth adding that usually only one person on a lease has to have good credit. That's why co-signing works; as long as one person directly involved has a dependable credit history, the holder of the lease is assured that the rent will be paid one way or another. If the roommate has good enough credit, the other name/s on the lease don't have to.
