Hey Warriors! As many of you know, Warriors: C.A.R.E. is currently working to end the practice of non-consensual pelvic and prostate examinations by medical students in Connecticut. We are super excited to share our Change.org video, which centers the narrative of our incredible volunteer Livia. It's only 3 minutes, and it does a great job of explaining why we are working so hard to get this legislation passed. If you could share with your networks, we would so appreciate it!
My disability does hold me back. And I’m tired of pretending it doesn’t.
I am learning to accept that’s okay. It’s okay if I can’t do things. It’s okay if I can’t do a lot of things. I will do what I can but never at the sacrifice of my peace or health. I am just as worthy on days I don’t get out of bed as I am on days when I’m productive. My worth never changes, even when my capabilities do.
7 Black Women Who Were Victims Of Rape And Are Now Accomplished Survivors
Abuse is never easy, and rape culture is very real and spans generations of people. The strand of hope for the abused is that there is survival after abuse and and opportunity to be very successful. Check out our list of 7 famous black women who have been raped and who are survivors in their own right:
Gabrielle Union has been very vocal about being raped at gunpoint when she was 19 while working a summer job at a Payless shoe store. The actress said on ABC’s “The View,” that she not a victim, but a survivor
Oprah Winfrey revealed she had been raped by a relative at just 9yrs old and was continuously abused by the same relative and other till she was 13. Oprah is a survivor!
Fantasia did not drop out of high school just to drop out. She was raped in her school auditorium and after hearing whispers and constant reminders she decided to leave school. In the book she said she was even told ‘I’m gonna do you the same way he did you,’ and that for me was it…. I figured the best way to handle this was to never go back.” She received her GED after she became a successful singer! Winning and surviving!
When Monique received her Golden Globe she recalled her past where she was sexually abused by her brother at the tender age of 7. She dedicated her award to all the victims of abuse in her speech
“I celebrate this award with all the Preciouses, with all the Marys — I celebrate this award with every person that’s ever been touched. It’s now time to tell. And it’s OK,” she said.
Mary J Blige endured years of abuse! She said she was raped at 5 by a family friend and it made her think very little of herself as she grew older into adulthood.
“I remember feeling, literally right before it happened, I just could not believe that this person was going to do this to me,” Blige said. “That thing followed me all my life. The shame of thinking my molestation was my fault – it led me to believe I wasn’t worth anything.”
Maya Angelou still inspires us today, but did you know she was raped at just 7 by her mother boyfriend? She spoke about it in her novel “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” (1969).
The rapper and actress was sexually abused by a babysitter as a child. “He violated me. I never told anybody. I just buried it as deeply as I could and kept people at an arms length. I never really let a person get too close to me. I could have been married years ago, but I had a commitment issue.”
Abuse is a horrid thing, but there is hope, there is survival.

Narcissists and Anti-Social predators are notorious for manufacturing chaos to worm their way closer to targeted abuse victims. They will set the stage for a target to suffer extreme emotional distress, then will show up mysteriously to "save the day".
It’s a sneaky brainwashing trick to manufacture chaos, then lie to a target in order to take advantage of their innocence in order to let the narcissistic predator have their way.
It’s the behaviors they use to micro manage the emotional body of their targets once they have their foot in the door and have free access to manipulate them.
Alternating good-bad treatment is one of the key warning signs you are involved with at best a person who is a situational abuser. It goes without saying that a person who is being brainwashed and lied to by a predator is likely to start to be mistrustful of any friend or family member who tries to save them.
Don’t fall into a rescue mode to save a person who willingly engages in maintaining a relationship with ANY person known to routinely exhibit a propensity for lying, & abusing others.
The predator’s victim is likely to feel on top of the world during any love-bombing and or hoovering phase. Their addiction to that emotional and psychological high that tends to happen chemically within the brain is their problem, one from which they cannot be saved.
A true victim wakes up to abuse and will not tolerate things like intermittent good-bad behavior a narcissistic person dishes out in order to keep their possessed victim constantly off center yet actively fully psychologically and emotionally engaged.

Warriors CARE is currently working to end the practice of non-consensual pelvic and prostate examinations in Connecticut. Our Change.org petition to end this abhorrent practice has gotten over 80,000 signatures, and we've connected with several legislators who want to get a bill passed! We are planning a direct action on February 9 - the first day of the 2022 legislative session - to help raise awareness. But for this to happen, we need help! We are raising funds to cover the cost of materials (ie signage, print outs of our petition, etc) as well as to cover travel costs. Please consider donating and/or sharing so we can make this happen! https://www.facebook.com/donate/311687227405645/

Rape survivors rarely get justice. Rape survivors don’t come forward for this reason. Sexual assault in the military is a serious issue we need to address. To this person, thank you for your service and We believe you.
