on the opposite of Life (rogurt au)
lots of people think the opposite of Life is Death. Death, the absence of Life; Death, the force that the so-called necromancers wield; Death, that which immortals cannot be touched by.
this is false.
Life and death are the same--to command Life is to command death. Noah, who creates constructs using the Life around him, rendering those he siphons from to death, is not so different from Wasabi, who forces Life back into bodies of death that haven't felt its touch in centuries.
no, Life and death are not opposites. not even immortals can escape death's embrace. yes, they expire eventually, just like the mortals do. the constant universe-hopping and reckless behavior that immortality breeds exposes them to their one weakness, the true opposite of Life: the Void. a perpetually shifting state, nothing at all yet everything at once. an infinitely finite, ever expanding plane of existence. the antithesis of Life and death's binary world.
it swallows you, turning your body into itself as it stretches across your skin. be too careless around the Void, and you will take your shirt off to a razor black hole in your chest. not a beautiful black like the night sky with clouds floating by, not a peaceful black like the dimness of your friends' homes that lulls you to sleep. nothing black, like the black that pools in your eyes when you first wake up, not registering anything. reach inside. you can fit your whole arm in there. there’s something in the sudden cavern that has made its home in your chest, but you can feel it’s not any of you.
Rizz tells you that living with Void is a constant battle, a forever fight to rally your Life against it just to prolong yourself for a few more seconds. just enough for one more moment of joy.
as you watch it widen like a black mold over your heart, you realize that you are doomed. you need to make it a few more seconds. just a few more seconds. just enough to say goodbye.
