I went to the Toronto Zoo this week. It’s a really nice zoo! I forgot my camera camera, so I didn’t take many animal pictures, just the butterfly and moth, but they have these cool assemblage sculptures on display this summer made out of all plastics taken from beaches to educate people on our ocean plastics problem. The Washed Ashore Project art installation at Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington. Coolest thing ever. Genius artists with incredible creative & inspired imaginations crafted this fish & the sea creatures that follow in subsequent posts from all the garbage that irresponsible people throw into our waters that gets washed ashore. (Minus what sea creatures ingest that kills them.) What a way to make a beautiful impact. I HATE bottled water. I hate it even more after having my coffee this morning with @denverunionstation's new friend Octavia the Octopus, visiting us from the @denverzoo. Octavia is made from pieces of plastic collected from beaches. Every single "suction cup" she has is a plastic water bottle cap. Every piece of this plastic was once purchased by someone, carelessly discarded, found its way to an ocean, and washed up on a beach where a volunteer picked it up and made a difference to giant Pacific octopuses and other marine life.
