Description

According to Rossetti himself, in an unidentified letter quoted by H.C. Marillier, Washing Hands ‘represents the last stage of an unlucky love affair. The lady has gone behind the screen (in the dining room perhaps) to wash her hands; and the gentleman, her lover, has followed her there, and has still something to say, but she has made up her mind. We may suppose that others are present, and that this is his only chance of speaking. I mean it to represent that state of a courtship when both of the parties have come to see in reality that it will never do, but when the lady, I think, is generally the first to have the strength to act on such knowledge. It is all over, in my picture, and she is washing her hands of it’.

Description

Pontius Pilate was the Roman governor of Judea from A.D. 26-36, serving under Emperor Tiberius. He is most known for his involvement in condemning Jesus to death on a cross.

In the Bible, Pontius Pilate is mentioned solely in connection with the trials and crucifixion of Jesus. The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) portray Pilate as reluctant to crucify Jesus. Pilate calls the charges against Jesus “baseless” (Luke 23:14) and several times declares Jesus to be not guilty: “What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty” (Luke 23:22).

Pontius Pilate’s brief appearance in Scripture is full of tragedy. He ignored his conscience and failed to recognize the truth even when Truth was standing right in front of him. When given an opportunity to evaluate the claims of Jesus, what will we decide? Will we accept His claim to be the King, or will we follow the voice of the crowd?

When you have a bandaid(/plaster) on and need to wash your hands do you,

Avoid getting the bandaid wet however possible while cleaning both hands.

Avoid getting the hand with the bandaid dirty so you don’t have to wash it.

Just let the bandaid get wet, what doesn’t kill me yada yada.

I don’t wear bandaids, let me bleed all over the place in peace.
