Werewolf age... I don't know if you've got a very specific idea on that yet. I've been trying to crack it for years, and the only conclusion I have is that they might age faster if mentally (or physically, emotionally) hurt. This would explain how Derek looked younger in Season 1, became 'older looking' upon Laura's death, and then the loss of his betas, the Jennifer-Deucalion cases, etc... That would probably explain Peter's looks too... I don't know where Cora fits in this... But it could (1)

(2) possibly justify Satomi's appearance. I have no clues on Noshiko... but maybe it's because she's a kitsune. (that's where I would shrug IRL... but well, bear with me.)

My favourite theories about werewolf age are both by other people (can't remember which posts now, so my apologies for not linking).

The first is that werewolf age is counted differently -- for instance, by the lunar cycle rather than the solar cycle. There was an awesome post, which I wish I could find again, which talked about how that could work, and account for werewolves having two ages -- the one they use in-pack, and the one they use amongst humans. Hence Cora saying she was "seventeen as you count years."

The second is that werewolf healing means their physical aging is somewhat slower than humans. It's roughly parallel from childhood to puberty, but once in adulthood they seem to age more slowly because they just don't take on the everyday low-level damage that human bodies do. For instance, UV in sunlight doesn't weather the skin to the same degree, they usually don't scar, and so on. However, if something traumatic enough happens, it maxes out even werewolf healing, and so aging happens at a faster rate. Peter's burns, for instance could at least partially explain his rapid aging. This theory fits in with yours about Derek aging due to emotional trauma quite nicely.

Here's the kicker, though. Is Cora really younger than Derek? If she's suffered less trauma over the years, maybe she looks younger, but is actually older. We don't know enough about her to judge -- she was captive of the alpha pack, and survived the fire, but what else has happened to her? 

Did Satomi look so old in the WWII camp because of the trauma of war? Maybe that's why she's barely aged since. Or maybe she just got the bite later in life.

Anyway, they are my favourite theories about werewolf aging.

I will insist forever that Derek's dad is human because yes imagine Talia Hale, powerful Alpha and badass loving a human and I feel like he was the most ordinary man, like a dad that used to used to complain about doing work on the house and would never ask for directions when driving even with a baby Derek crying in the back seat and 4 year old Laura complaining about her legs hurting. He would wear shorts 24/7 and loved fishing and hiking with his family.

And Talia had met him on a weekend trip a long time ago with the pack, and he'd done some insane act that would get her attention like jumping in the lake to rescue her baseball cap that Peter had thrown into the river. And they had dated and finally when Talia told him, he looked amazed and wasn't scared, and that's how Talia knew she was in it for the long haul. And they had four kids (I think there's another Hale that died in the fire I feel like he was a human too) and he was a soft-hearted man around his family but the scariest motherfucker when talking to rival packs because he was defensive of his family. 

(PS I think his name was George Hale)

I feel like he looked more like Cora than Derek, though, and Derek didn't connect as much with him as he should have when he was a kid. 

But he was smart, and that's why Talia had fallen in love with him. He could tell the bad intentions of people, and right before the fire, he'd taken Derek to the side and been like "I don't know what's going on with you kiddo, but you're okay, right?" 

And Derek had looked his dad in the eyes and lied to his face and said "Dad, quit worrying. Everything is fine." And walked away and I feel like that's another thing Derek's held onto all of these years; that he didn't treat his dad with any respect because he wasn't a werewolf.

OTHER HEADCANON (that can work with the first one). Chris is Derek's dad, and Talia is not his mom. And Talia and her 'husband' (they obviosuly weren't married if the kids are wearing Talia's name but shhh!) got custody of Derek because his mother was hunted and sought protection from Talia (but she died in the preserve maybe?) and so, all the scenes and parallels between Chris and Derek are just that : FAMILY. (but then, kate is Derek's aunt. *vomits*)

I don't know, I'd be all for Chris being Derek's dad but I don't really see anyone else being his mother besides Talia. It's just engraved in my heart.

Hello! I loved your analysis of the Stilinski Chessboard. And I've been thinking about the two players... Nogitsune vs Stiles seems like a possibility : none of them on the board, that could explain why Jackson/Allison/Argent/Kate are the white (Nogitsune) and why the others are the black. I won't go as far as to say that Derek is the king because Stiles could be (have been ?) his emissary. But... if it is Nogitsune vs Stiles, who would be who (colors) in your opinion ? Thanks !

Thanks very much!!! The scene was bugging me since I watched the episode, so of course I needed to add my own two-cents (as terrible as it is) into it. 

As for the colors, it might surprise you but I believe that the Nogitsune is actually the black pieces and Stiles is the white. One, the white pieces are far more organized and better positioned than the black. Stiles is known for his planning and for his research. Which means two things; one, that he knows how to play chess. He has a chessboard in his room, of course he knows how to play chess. Two, Stiles knows his players, he knows his pieces. The Nogitsune on the other hand, doesn’t. All he knows about the people of Beacon Hills is what he learned from the Nematon and from the exchanges while with Stiles. I don’t think he can read Stiles’ mind and learn the characteristics of all the people Stiles has met. But when you put a name on a piece, that name becomes the piece. So Derek is the King for the Nogitsune. Because the Nogitsune equates people who have power to be the most powerful. So, either the Nogitsune doesn’t know chess very well, which could be the case if it played Go, I don’t think the two games are very similar. Or the Nogitsune honestly believes that Derek fits the role of a King on a chessboard. 

In my opinion, the Nogitsune chose Stiles for his brains, for his ability to figure things out. Which could mean that the Nogitsune isn’t very good at that sort of thing, at least not without some help. It was called to the mortal plane for revenge, and revenge for a kitsune possession is supposed to be short and sweet, not drawn out. Kitsune usually never possess bodies for very long. 

With Stiles on the white side of the board, he has people the Nogitsune probably doesn’t know, and will never know two of them at the very least. Jackson and Kate, both who are long gone from Beacon Hills. Gerard will probably not make an appearance, but the Nogitsune knows Allison. How well, I have no idea. Not only that, but look at the way the board is set up on Derek’s side. The Nogitsune has essentially boxed himself, which means its difficult to find an escape route once a check has been made. Whereas, if you look on Stiles’ side, from what little you can see, there are exit routes for the white king; its a design of someone who knows what they are doing. 

The chessboard was supposed to symbolize the current status of the plans of the Nogitsune. Isaac is out of commission; if we consider that Stiles was the one who took Isaac by having what I think was the Allison Knight piece ‘eat’ it. This may be Stiles’ way of getting Isaac out of the grasp of the Nogitsune, by placing him outside the chessboard. 

I hope this is what you were looking for! I’m not really an expert at chess, I’ve just been forced to play it quite a bit.

Could you PLEASE please pleeeeeease write a Niam with Liam and Niall being in Wolverhampton with their family and Maura showing Karen pictures of her son as a baby (and Karen doing the same) while their sons are trying to find a way to tell them that they are together ?

Liam looked on in distress as his mother pointed out yet another picture of him in diapers and face full of jam. Niall seemed to find it hilarious and have completely forgotten the purpose of the visit.

They were supposed to announce their relationship, not giggling over Liam’s small peepee.

She shushed him for the seventh time and showed Niall yet another picture of Liam peeing in the garden with his batman undies on his head.
