Aside from WATSU, a form of aquatic therapy where a person is floated freely through warm water, I sometimes use Wasser Tanzen (WaterDance) in my aqua sessions with the kids. Though similar to Watsu, Wasser Tanzen involves full immersion, gently guiding the person underwater incorporating elements of massage, waves, rolls, somersaults, inversions and dance. I found it to be a very powerful approach when working with kids with Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and sensory processing disorders, when applicable. These forms of aquatherapy can provide an opportunity for the child to trust, relax and enjoy.
