is this not a straight up lie? like, okay, these cycles are different, we learn this. but also, isn’t the history the same? so shion’s past where she gets her nails ripped off the year satoshi disappears always happens -- and mion is there for that!!

unless there’s something in the manga suggesting that isn’t the case, which... idk maybe, otherwise yeah mion has to be lying here

so I like this take here, compared to the anime, that after lying to Mion, Oiishi asks Keiichi the same question, and reveals that he knows Keiichi is lying. In front of Mion.

It adds this... sadness in the air. Where Mion knows he lied, and he knows he’s been caught, but Mion is trying to... move past it. at least on the surface. It’s a painful one. Keiichi just stood up for her, and now there’s this doubt that swims between them.

Today in "ways the Gou manga has fixed issues that were present in the anime adaptation": They fixed one of the biggest issues that I had with Watadamashi-hen. (Late to the party, yes, but that won't stop me from sharing it nonetheless.)

So, I'm on record (if not on Tumblr then elsewhere) as having issues with Shion and Keiichi going to the toy store to buy the doll as in Watanagashi's canon. While I'll cherish the Shion face until the day I die, it doesn't make sense - Shion wanting the doll is all but (or is outright? My Meakashi's rusty as hell) an act of malice intended to undermine every nice thing Mion's done in the Shion persona, while Keiichi's buying of the doll is a carefully-considered act of reconciliation meant to get Mion the doll she should have received earlier. If the demon isn't awakened, then why would Shion "want" the doll? If Keiichi didn't give the doll to the wrong person, why would he buy her a second one?

The manga solves this by jumping from the scene in Angel Mort after Shion saves Keiichi from the delinquents to the preparations for the festival and turning the moment where Shion and Mion get Keiichi their respective cups of tea into the twin reveal.

God, it just... it's such a good fix, and the art's great and the scene's just as hilarious as it is in the anime and I have to applaud it. A+ work, Gou manga, and here's to you fixing even more things as Meguri carries on.

appreciate that the reveal of shion actually being shion and not mion pretending was done differently here than the anime. also... keiichi as he realizes what’s happening is absolutely priceless.

English dub of the ladder scene from episode 8 of Gou. I personally really like Mion’s new dub voice. To me it’s almost as good...

Finally had a chance to read this! Seems like we saw most of the same clues, and have more or less the same timeline of when it's Mion vs Shion!  Though I disagreed on a few points that led me to think Rika's death was still Shion rather than a Player X.

Granted, I still need to invoke some kind of unknown for whatever is happening with Takano and Tomitake.  But I just find "Unknown X" as a major culprit to be so unsatisfying, I do everything I can to avoid it in my own theories, haha.  Even if it might make more sense, honestly...
