J/L, if the boy with the goat hadn't come by while they were stuck in the shipping crate until a few minutes later ;P
"Right, well some people might ask why you signed on with me in the first place."
"We catch a lot of bad guys. Most days, that's enough. Also, I--"
"Shhhh!" Jane called out to silence her. "Did you hear that?"
"Jane," she glared at him, part exasperation and part exhaustion causing her tone to be shorter than it usually was (even when she was scolding him). "There's no one there."
Of course there wasn't; he knew that. But he had to do something to prevent her from making an admission that she couldn't take back. Because he had his suspicions, and he was certain that whatever she was about to tell him, she wasn't actually ready to say and he wasn't ready to hear.
Who is my greatest literary inspiration and why?Hmmmm, this is a tough one. Any author whose work I enjoy and admire will be an inspiration to me. I find myself particularly inspired by Margaret Atwood's work and her style and how she creates worlds. I've also been very impressed with Veronica Roth and her blog posts and how she interacts with fans and talks about writing.
My favorite thing about my writing?I think it's my general style, which tends to be more quiet and (hopefully, if I've done my job right) nuanced, and my attention to detail. I put a lot into developing my stories, and even though the details frequently go unnoticed, I do think it still pays off for me.
Weirdest thing I've ever written? So, there was this fractured fairytale that went around the Carter/Abby fandom MANY MANY YEARS AGO (seriously, you were just a bb then). I wrote some of that. Hands down, still the weirdest thing I've ever written. Other than that, quite possibly the Jane/Lisbon British Peerage AU I've been playing around with. (Which is about as ridiculous as it sounds, but still pretty damn fun once I figured out how to set it up, ngl.)
1, 9, 12, 21 (asking since you've rec'd me so many, lol), 42, 44, and 51.
1 - Favorite childhood book: Betsy-Tacy, Five Children and It, Narnia, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Matilda, The Secret Garden, A Little Princess. THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.
9 - Least favorite book I've read this year (so far): Based on my GoodReads ratings, it's Death Comes to Pemberley by PD James.
12 - What is my reading comfort zone?: young adult, romance, general fiction - I'm not sure I have a specific reading comfort zone anymore, though. I've really tried to branch out.
21 - What will inspire me to recommend a book?: Books that make me feel or that make me especially flaily. Plus, I think about things I know someone likes. It will hit me as I'm reading that something about a book reminds me of a friend's preferences. Or if I know someone is looking for a particular kind of rec, I'll keep that in the back of my mind as I read (or just browse books). Or some people I just recommend things until they have no choice but to read it so that I'll finally shut up about it, just because I really want/need this person to read a particular book/series. (Ahem...)
42 - Name a book that I could/would not finish: I finish almost everything I start, even if I don't like it that much. It's a compulsion of mine, and it's occasionally worked in my favor where I discover I actually enjoy a book at the end even if I wasn't sure about it in the beginning. HOWEVER, I did not finish Outlander last fall. I could not get into it, and then it was due back at the library and I couldn't renew it. I probably would've tried to push through it if not for being unable to renew, but I'm not sure I'm going to go back and make another dedicated attempt either.
44 - Favorite film adaptation of a novel: Matilda, the 90s version of A Little Princess and The Secret Garden, the 1995 P&P, and the 1995 Persuasion. In no particular order.
51 - Are there any books I've been avoiding?: 50 Shades of Grey. The sequels to Twilight. (Twilight is the one exception to my finish-what-I-started compulsion. I finished the first book. I refuse to read the other three.)

Questions from fseventh:
-
Q1: Do you have a middle name and a surname?
A1: I do have a middle name; it's Lynn. :)
-
Q2: Do you find shipping people on TV annoying?
A2: Me? Find it annoying? Hahaha. I'm the self-announcing shipping queen. I ship everything with two legs and a mouth. ;) (Or maybe that's just within The Mentalist, hmmm...)
-
Q3: If you have one chance to change your decision in life, will you do that?
A3: Probably not. I've come to learn that you can only change the decisions you make, not the decisions others make. Most of my problems come from the ill decisions of others, who thought they knew what was best for me...when in fact, it was only best for them.
-
Q4: What's your biggest dream right now?
A4: I want to become a novelist.
-
Q5: Your favorite romantic comedy movie?
Q5: The Ugly Truth! It's the only movie that manages to make me feel extremely awkward and comfortable at the same time.
-
Q6: Your favorite horror movie?
A6: Silence of the Lambs will forever be my favorite. I'm into more psychological horror/thriller than I am into blood and gore. (I have sat through a few horror movies where blood and gore seem to be the main objective, and I just laugh or make horrible jokes. My "favorite" joke though: "Oh, so that's what a bloodbath looks like" when the showers are spewing out blood.)
-
Q7: Your biggest fear?
A7: That I will never be good enough for anybody, including myself.
-
Q8: Your primary school name?
A8: I had two, but I'll go with the more ~recent one: North Pointe.
-
Q9: Your favorite teacher name?
A9: Meyers, without a doubt. In my thirteen or more years of school, she's the only teacher to let me walk out of her classroom after giving a giant speech and not get detention for it.
-
Q10: Have you watched musical? What's your favorite one, if you have?
A10: I have! I will admit though, I've only see one musical on stage and it was Wicked...so...Wicked is my favorite one, for good reasons. :D
A2: Well, I'm from a certain activity involving two people, who apparently loved each other very much and...(oh come on, like you didn't know I was going to try and give the sarcastic answer here.) I'm from Kentucky! :)
-
Q3: Assuming you're familiar with Harry Potter, which house do you think you fit best?
A3: I'm a true Slytherin; I'm always plotting and planning.
-
Q4: Fandom you're most active in?
A4: The Mentalist, of course. ;)
-
Q5: Favorite fanfic(s) from that fandom?
A5: I could just refer you to my favorite fanfic page, but that would probably be cheating. So, I will just say I enjoy fics about Red John the most at the moment. Whether ships are involved or not, depend on my mood at that moment.
-
Q6: Current favorite album?
A6: I'm still in love with The Hunger Games Soundtrack. <3
-
Q7: Do you like to read? If so, what are your current favorite books?
A7: I love to read! My current favorite books though: Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews, Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris, Picture Perfect by Jodi Picoult, The Pact by Jodi Picoult, and Salem Falls by Jodi Picoult. I will also extend my favorite books out to Point of Origin by Patricia Cornwell, because it's the only book I can't read without crying. :/
-
Q8: What job do you wish you had?
A8: I wish I could work with the penguins! (Or be a novelist. :D)
-
Q9: Favorite beverage (alcoholic or otherwise)?
A9: Milk. I'm a simple person, really. ;)
-
Q10: What was the last movie you saw in theaters?
A10: The Hunger Games!
-
Q11: If you could learn how to play any instrument; what would you pick and why?
A11: The cello. I honestly think I want to learn how to play this instrument, because it sounds so pretty and melancholic.

Questions from whooves:
-
Q1: If you could take eleven items from your burning house, they would be...?
A1: I'm assuming that my family and cat have made it out safely, okay? 1. My writing notebooks, 2. my computer/computer cord, 3. my Kindle/charger, 4. My purse, 5. My Mentalist DVD's, 6. a coat, 7. my iPod/charger, 8. my cellphone/charger, 9. Pictures of close friends, 10. the penguin my "big sister" gave me, and 11. a flashlight.
-
Q2: What's the eleventh most-played song on your iTunes?
A2: 19 Somethin' by Mark Willis (although, it's also number twelve too...)
-
Q3: Which do you prefer, the sun or the moon, why?
A3: I prefer the moon. I love the serenity it brings me, and right now, the song I'm listening to (Hello by Evanescence) is making me think of the moon. I'm strange, I know.
-
Q4: Have you read Echoes of Summer?
A4: Nope.
-
Q5: Who's your favorite artist, what's your favorite work of art, and what's your favorite artistic period?
A5: Um...I honestly don't have a favorite of any of those things. I will admit though, I always enjoyed learning about the Gothic style in school. (The architecture was absolutely beautiful.)
-
Q6: What does your most worn t-shirt look like?
A6: It's a stripped black and pink number. :)
-
Q7: You can invite any three people, dear or alive, fictional or real, famous or not, to dinner. Who? Why?
A7: I'd invite Red John, Edgar Allan Poe, and Clarice Starling. Why? I could just really imagine a dinner with these three being fun! (Besides, I could get a good insight on serial killers/FBI agents for the pieces I'm currently writing.)
-
Q8: Which character from which show do you identify most with and why?
A8: Out of all the characters, I would say Shawn Spencer from psych. The issues he has with his father remind me of the issues I have with mine, and the both of us seem to use humor to protect ourselves. However, if I have to pick a female character, I would say Grace Van Pelt from The Mentalist.
-
Q9: Do you have a cool pair of rain boots? If you do, what do they look like? If not...well, why not?
A9: Unfortunately, I do not. It's mainly because it doesn't rain enough here, really. Also, I have problems with shoes and my feet...so, it would be a battle trying to find anything to fit me/anything that I would actually wear.
-
Q10: Do you write often? What do you write?
A10: I write all the time. It's the common joke among close friends that I never sleep, because I'm too busy dreaming up plot lines and the such. As for what I write? I currently write fanfiction, because I'm trying to fine tune my craft before I start working on my novel.
-
Q11: Tell me a happy memory.
A11: I honestly wish I could, but I can't. I don't really have any.
-
Questions from webuiltthepyramids:
-
Q1: What is one thing in the next six months or so you have to accomplish or you will go crazy?
A1: Besides finishing my SKBB fic? Finishing my current on-going pirate fic.
-
Q2: Of all the shows you've only seen part of, which one do you want to catch up on the most?
A2: Bones! I keep saying I'm going to watch the second season, but I want to finish The West Wing first!
-
Q3: Of all the shows you've never seen an episode of, which do you want to watch the most?
A3: Criminal Minds? It just seems like something I'd be interested in. I should probably also say Doctor Who, because I've been asked to watch that at some point.
-
Q4: If you were a robot, and I knew and you didn't, would you want me to tell you? Why?
A4: It depends on the follow criteria: if I'm an evil robot or I eat flesh, you should tell me and then promptly try to destroy me. If I'm a good robot, you should still tell me...but don't destroy me. Really, when it comes down to it...if I'm trying to take over the world, you'll know what to do. ;)
-
Q5: What's the coolest place you've visited in your own country?
A5: Disney World? ;)
-
Q6: Strangest dream you've ever had (if you're willing to share?):
A6: I seem to remember almost being killed by a serial killer, who turned out to be somebody in my family. I seem to have really strange dreams.
-
Q7: If one of your fandoms could exist in real life, which one would you want?
A7: Can I say none of them? I love the fandoms I'm apart of, but I just can't imagine any of them existing in real life without some drama happening.
-
Q8: If you have siblings, what are you most proud of them for?
A8: I have only one sister by blood, and three that aren't related to me by blood:
By blood sister - she does anything she can to accomplish her dreams, and that's why I'm the most proud of her. She's an amazing singer and actress, even though she continues to believe she isn't. <3 We don't get along all the time, but I'm seriously proud of her and her upcoming graduation this month.
My three non-related sisters:
Ashley: I just am proud of everything she has accomplished since high school, and she's my longest "friend".
Ana: She's my big sister and triplet. It'd be wrong not to put her here, because I am so beyond proud of everything that she does. She's one of the most amazing and important people in my life, who continues to encourage me to leap into the next mile.
Kris: She's my triplet, even though I don't call her sis. I have many online friends, but Kris is one of the few people who tries to understand me. Our friendship/sisterness is so important to me, like with Ana's, because I don't have many friends outside the internet at the moment. As for what I'm proud of her for? The fact that she's writing more. The fact that she's doing really well in school, and the fact she's just plain amazing.
I know I'm a hard person to get along with, which is why two of these people are even more amazing. They actually want to try and make a friendship work with me, instead of running at the first sight of trouble.
-
Q9: What is your favorite book you've ever been required to read?
A9: The Crucible by Arthur Miller. (Play or not, it's my favorite.) Or To Kill a Mockingbird!
-
Q10: What season finale are you most excited for?
A10: The Mentalist! I absolutely love Castle, but The Mentalist has been the only show I've seen live for almost three years (I used to record episodes during my senior year of high school, when my bedtime used to be 9.) I really won't say why I'm the most excited, as I don't really want to spoil episodes for anybody, but the entire speculation around the season finale just has me jumping up and down and crying already.
-
Q11: If you watch reality shows, what is your favorite? If you don't, which one would you choose to watch if you had to?
A11: If I had to watch one, I'd probably watch Big Brother. My family watches that, but I'm just interested in it.
