Mauritius’ spectacular underwater waterfall

There is a breathtaking sight on the southwest corner of the magnificent island of Mauritius that appears to defy the laws of physics. Here, we make an effort to explain the underwater waterfall phenomenon. It's important to start by saying that the optical illusion created by the flowing waterfall beneath the ocean is truly a stunning optical illusion that may be explained by the fascinating geological history of the Indian Ocean. In comparison to much of the world, Mauritius is a young island, having developed about 8 million years ago (to put that into context, Earth itself is 500 times as old - at around 4.6 billion years).
