mettamay day 15: umbrella... a human passed through here and provided shade to the statue weathered by its spotlight
Undertale is a special video game to me.
When I found Undertale it was 6 months after I'd moved schools & half-way across the planet to a new country. I was depressed, stressed with my family's immigration struggles and the most alone I'd ever been (, my new timezone meant I couldn't talk with my old friends during the school day, and I never managed to make any meaningful or long term friendships for the rest of my schooling).
But I had Undertale and... I started drawing, then writing.
Suddenly, I stopped noticing my long lunch breaks alone. I was able to ignore the pangs of hurt from hearing my classmates laughing with friends I didn't have, because I found a world in which I could escape, and I quite literally wrote myself a friend: Star Sans. And together with him, we went on adventures, and day by day, life got a little better. I made peace with my solitude in school, I found friends online who shared my love for this game, but were also able to support me through the living nightmare that was my life back then.
My doodles became masterful drawings, with skills I never knew I had (I'm currently in my second year of my Bachelor of Screen Arts degree).
I started story writing to tell my adventures with Star in the Underverse, and because of my determination to tell that story, I got so good at writing you can't tell I'm dyslexic anymore. I have aspirations to become an author one day, because my dyslexia isn't that hard 'you can't do this' I used to believe it was.
This game shaped me into who I am.
It gave me hope when I was at my lowest.
I know this picture isn't much, but...
Thank you, Toby. You gave me good memories in a time when I didn't believe there was going to be any to be had.
And a shout-out to my amazing friends in this community who've been with me ever since.
Thank you Key, Myrrhion, @vangold, and everyone else I had the pleasure of meeting through you three, after you guys 'adopted me' into your friend group. Words can't express what a difference you guys made to my life <3
Waterfall Statue
On the left is my version, on the right is the original. I'm actually pretty proud of the finished product, especially since backgrounds are my weakness.
Bunch of dear scans… I missed my HP LaserJet
Practiced skelebros, *T!Frisk is confused and a lot, Doodle pages with song-inspired stuff and practice for the new composition project (yay Undertale)
Oh, and a lot of FNaF
