Hello! I have a question about your use of Hadrian as a name for Harry in your fic.
Is it more of like a identity thing? Like rejecting the name Harry and growing into Hadrian? And liking it as his real name and claiming it?
And also, do you think I could use it in my fanfic? I like how it rolls off the tongue.
I’ve seen you and DarthVeratis, and Death In Nature use Hadrian for Harry’s name. And you all write so good!
Do you think it’s more how I write him, not what the story is about?
Thanks for your writings! Have a nice night!
Hi there!
I used Hadrian as Harry's name in CS largely for these two main reasons:
It narratively made sense for him to have a different name. He and Lily were in hiding and they needed new identities. 'Hadrian' was both close enough to Harry to not throw readers off, and is an older, noble name that Lily, in story, would see the sense in using.
The symbolism behind who Hadrian identifies as was always going to be a big theme in CS. The duality between Harry-Hadrian was always going to be one of his biggest points of character growth.
As for using it in your fanfictions, you absolutely do not need my permission for that, darling. 'Hadrian', ‘Harrison’ and 'Henry' have long been used in HP fanfiction as substitutes for 'Harry'. I certainly wasn't the first to use it, so if you like it and you think it fits in with your story, then by all means!
The name isn't a defining factor in your writing either. Writing is a skill that takes time and patience to improve at - and one that to me, personally, you can never truly 'master'. Even super accomplished writers are always learning and evolving.
I think so long as writing is something you enjoy, feel passionate about, and are eager to try, your skills will continue to flourish. Just keep chipping away at your ideas and stories, and the rewards will come in time 😊
