This pun required some research to be honest. Apparently the Greek name for fennel is “marathon” or “marathos” and the place where the battle of Marathon happened means “a plain with fennels” Quite a cultural one today. I love fennels. They are superb and they look so neatly tucked in their layers. Also apparently they are from the same family as carrots! 🤓
