Happy Fanfic Writer Friday!!! Do you prefer to hand write or type when making outlines or plans for your fics? What about the full fic?

Happy Fanfic Writer Friday! 

Typing. Always. For both. My typing fingers can keep up with my brain a lot faster than my writing hands. 

What I actually do is a different story, but if I can help it, I will always type. Occasionally, though, I’ll get an idea at work or in the car and I won’t have access to a computer. If I can, I’ll type it on my phone, but if, for some reason, I can’t, I have been known to write random ideas/paragraphs on sticky notes and then stick them in a convenient place where I can take them home. Other times, if I’m out running errands or something, or even if my brain is working too fast even for my typing fingers, I’ll voice record the thoughts in my head in order to get them out and not forget them. 

No matter what, though, I will always come back to typing. Even if I write something on a sticky note, or voice record it, I will ultimately wind up copying it onto my computer via typing later. And I definitely type the full fic. It’s just easier for me overall.

Pen & paper or laptop?

Hi, anon! For writing big, long-winding segments, I vastly prefer laptops! I need to move as fast as my mind is going when I get in the zone and sometimes my pen just can’t do the job! But overall I can write either way! I’ve actually seriously enjoyed writing longhand lately but, yeah, entirely too tedious longhand is sometimes.

I kinda prefer laptops at the end of the day, though, because my mind is so nutty. But pen&paper has its own magic, its own charms ^_^

Your World

If you are a writer of fiction, and you ever find yourself saying "it doesn't work like that" then stop.

This is your world, it works however you want it to work. The readers won't say, "it doesn't work like that" the readers just roll with it. This is your world, go crazy.

Read outside your genre

As a writer, read a lot. Get inspiration from other works and observe what other writers do well.

Also as a side note, read outside your genre, find what authors do outside science fiction or romance. Read some mystery or horror so if you write those into your story you'll be able to write it well.

Romance

When writing a romance, slow burns are incredible.

As a reader I find slow relationships much better than romances where the two fall in love and get together right off the bat. Unless you're going "sense and senseability" on me then go slow.

Descriptions

Descriptions are good but don't over describe little things.

Sure I want to know what the room looks like but I don't need to know every detail. I don't care if one corner of the rug is folded
