Des Binge Fest Week 11:
Ā GOSSIP GIRL season 3 ep. 15:Ā
āThe Sixteen Year Old Virginā (2010)
Doing this Des appreciation binge has been so much fun (and super enlightening- like, really, we forgot how prolific he is angie09g). We're on to week 11 and this week's installment is an episode of the uberly-popular "Gossip Girl," in which Desmond portrays the devious, deliciously evil and malevolently charming & lascivious Uncle Jack Bass:
"Gossip Girl" is a show I truthfully donāt like. It's deceptively beautiful to look at, though. The characters are all generally attractive and often wearing ALL the designers. Theyāre also young andĀ seem to possess the very best life has to offer: great family and prestige, wonderful upbringing and education, plenty of style, exciting relationships, and the world at the palm of their hands. Naturally, all this is a veneer for a shitton of drama lurking underneath, but thatās the predictability of this show you already guessed when I was describing all of the above.
If these young people had any substance and I could form an actual attachment to any of them, it would really help but the truth is this show is all filler. I find myself aimlessly staring at the screen, counting down the minutes until Des returns because, lbh, thatās the only reason Iām watching. I just canāt with this show.
Having said all that, it has itās moments. I see the appeal this show has. The actors arenāt horrible. The screenplay isnāt dreadful. Itās a lot of flash and shine, but itās pretty. And how can you not appreciate most of what Serena and Blair wear? Some of it is just plain gorgeous:
And as for Des, heās just amazing in this role. 98% of anything he says is hilarious. Heās handsome, evil, and really addicting to watch. I rate any episode that heās on for a good amount of time a 10/10 just because...Jack Bass is, like, the BESTĀ āGossip Girlā character. Such a snake, but wow heās hot.
I guess I forgot to summarize this episode, so let me break it down: one of the girls (Jenny) is still a virgin and her current boyfriend is pressuring her to have sex. So thereās a story there. Then Chuck Bass has some issues with sexual harassment claims against him that heās sureĀ his uncle (YEAH BABY) is behind-another story. And Chuckās mom is in this and sheās not to be trusted- story number 3. I guess thereās more stuff, but I forget so letās just focus on the fact that Des looks like this:
And I approve!
