S1EP3 haunted campus part where SD looks at SY w/ fond eyes and a softness to his mouth... there were literal heart bokehs in the background!!!
i fell in love w/ SY bcs of this scene... bcs how can i not love someone who is so, SO loved and loved in such a beautiful and tender way
What do you think their love languages are?
Shi De's love language is probably act of service.
i mean... he made SY ramen & was totally okay w/ letting him eat everything despite his own anger. he peeled SY's shrimp, he made SY fried rice, he took care of SY when he was sick, he drove them around. so yeah, act of service~
Shu Yi's love language is probably physical touch.
boy's thirsty for that d lol the first time they had sex, they did it on SY's fckn piano in his fckn penthouse (S1 novel) lol and immediately after they reconcile in S2EP4, he demanded sexc time (S2 novel). so yeah, man's horny 25/8 haha
also, shameless self-promo but i wrote a small DeYi fic revolving around love language!
What kind of dates do they go on?
Picnics or luxurious resort in Norway where they can watch the aurora lights, no in between lol
Favorite kiss and/or hug.
the promise kiss
it's literally the sweetest thing ever... the softest and sweetest they've ever been w/ each other and it breaks me how loved SY is by SD and vice versa
Man, Shu Yi is annoyingly smart. ASCII is something you usually learn in Comp Sci. He probably heard about ASCII numbers in one of Shi De's classes. Or when they were on study dates and he got bored with his own books, he'd peer into Shi De's material and read it for fun. Maybe he asked Shi De to explain it to him. Then thinking back to it when he had to make the email address. So cute.
(Still wildly waving em flags)yes... I’m back. I read my (overly)dramatic proclamation from last time and I think I didn’t put it down properly? I mean, I love angst-especially in your fics-but miscommunication just seems like an overplayed trope. wbl’s S1 had a very mature vibe to it and Shu Yi has always been so proactive(he confronts all problems headfirst) so this sp ep felt a little off for me... but, the acting is so good I cannot leave it. I must know what happens to my son Shi De. :’)
aw, ur reaction was completely justified honeybunn~ u invest ur time & emotion in the series, it's understandable that u're disappointed if u see sth u don't like
also when u said that S1 was mature, my mind immediately thought back to the pranks that Shu Yi pulled & how Shi De blackmail Shu Yi xD
as i mentioned before, im totally okay with the miscommunication. it's something that immediately comes to mind when they said that Shi De will be going to America.
also, ik it's an overused trope but it's a thing that really does happen in real life.
in the context of WBL, i think that it fits with the directions & characterization.
Shi De internalizes his emotions and keeps things to himself. meanwhile, Shu Yi is expressive and explosive with his emotions but he keeps things to himself when it matters. we’re literally told by Zheng Wen in Ep2 that Shu Yi likes to keep things to himself despite his aloofness.
so yah... i disagree with "Shu Yi confronts all problems headfirst". also, even tho he did confront Shi De in the end, he had to be nudged. i think that when it really matters, he tends to deal with his problems when he's motivated to do so. like, he literally ran away from his unrequited love for Yu Xin and only confronted Shi De bcs of Yu Xin's made sense of his feelings for him and told him to go get his man.
I also think Shu Yi's character development is largely dependant on the presence of Shi De... he's literally only ever emotionally open with Shi De throughout the entirety of S1 (Ep2: talking about love, thanking Shi De for taking him away from Yu Xin & Zheng Wen. Ep3: admitting that he's still not 100% over Yu Xin. Ep5: seeking Shi De out to confront his feeling. Ep6: taking into account the fact that he is a difficult person and asking if he was terrible to him, actually listening to Shi De’s explanation about going to the States).
so yeah, Shu Yi is only ever communicative with Shi De, but we also have to keep in mind that before he seeks Shi De out and confronts him about their feelings for each other, he also ran away from Shi De(tried dating the junior). this is literally what happened in the special episode as well! he literally walks back as soon as his heart breaks. that’s just how Shu Yi rolls.
so, i think Shu Yi's emotional growth and openness basically just... stop(?)/revert back to how he used to be when Shi De's not around.
and Shi De is literally never open and vocal with his emotions and what's going on in his life to being with...
literally the only times he was so open were with his mom, during dinner time in Ep5 (even then we can see that he’s holding sth back), and with Shu Yi, in Ep5, and he only did it to reassure Shu Yi.
their emotional growth and character developments are very intertwined with one another. more so on Shu Yi’s side bcs i think Shu Yi ‘looks toward‘ Shi De for guidance when it comes to emotions (Ep6 their entire convo about nervousness is literally Shu Yi ignoring his own nervousness & only accepting it when he realizes that Shi De is nervous).
to me, their actions & reactions makes sense with what i've come to understand in S1... and, as i talked about a lot before, separation & distance brew doubt so everything just... intesifies.
and, ofc there are probably other things that aren't shown to us and im very excited to see more
the way everyone in the wbl fan base saw Sam and went “that’s a clown, your honor” absolutely SENDS me
he IS a clown lol
^^^ unmute that lol
he loves to make stupid faces (he legit once said he likes making ugly + stupid faces) haha there was also this one fancam of him only making dumb faces when he took selfies w/ his fans asfghjkldi
this is from the same goddamn live lol i seriously want to hangout with him so much bcs i too make these stupid faces haha
Was there anything from this wbl ep that the Japanese subs worked better than the English subs? Like easier to understand or fit better?
anon!!! i was about to make a post about this!!! thank you for enabling me!!!
i would say that, in this ep, i like the wordings of the japanese sub better. but i guess that's because im a but of a 'wordy' person?
BUT!!!! i feel like the 'because it's you' part makes more sense to me in japanese. although,,, it's very influenced by my interpretation
「たくさん食べたら悩みがなくなるよ」 (takusan tabetara nayami ga nakunaru yo) which i personally, and dramatically, translates to 'if u eat a lot, ur sorrow will lessen' but like... the normal (?) translation would be 'if you eat a lot, you won't have to worry' lol im a food enthusiast okay,,, lemme have my food moment haha
this is just a language thing... in japanese, when we miss someone, we say 「会いたい」 (ai tai) but this phrase actually translates to 'want to meet/see'. here, Yu Xin says 「会いたいのなら会いに行って」 (aitai no nara ai ni itte) and it literally translates to 'if you want to meet him, go and meet/see him'. ik it means 'if u miss him then go and meet/see him' but i just- the wording~
here, Yu Xin says 「だから最近 学校であちこち回って 偶然の出会いを作ろうとしているじゃないの」 (dakara saikin gakkou de achikochi mawatte gūzen no deai o tsukurou to shite iru janai no?) which translates to 'so, lately, u went around the school trying to create the chance to meet him, right?'
as opposed to the english sub 'u've been running around school lately, just to meet him, right?'
the jpn subtitle just hits different in this scene bcs Shu Yi DID went around campus waiting for Shi De to show up. my kokoro...
this here!!! Shi De says 「僕たちの距離を縮め」 (bokutachi no kyori o chidjime) which is 'to bridge the distance between us' T-T i can't!!!!!
and this. OH BOY. T H I S.
so... this is after Shi De says 'i thought you said you didn't like boys'. Shu Yi's response is interesting...
in english, he says 'because it's you, i have no choice'. it doesn't really sit well with me bcs it reminds me of the shit that bl characters usually say, which is along the line of 'i don't like boys, i only like you'
BUT! in japanese, the line is 「好きなのは君だから 好きじゃなきゃならない」 (sukina no wa kimi dakara suki janakya naranai). this translates to 'i like you, so I have to like it (the fact that you're a guy)'
it gives the sense that Shi De's gender doesn't matter. Shu Yi likes him so he will embrace Shu Di's gender, and his flaws and shortcomings and whatever else that come with it.
it goes back to how Shu Yi said 'you even like their flaws, it must be true love' ofc Shi De's gender isn't a flaw, nope, no, never, but i hope u get what i mean. it also kinda echoes what i wrote about Shi De liking Shu Yi even when he's aware of Shu Yi's flaw.
they see each other, like, literally see each other in every aspects, they acknowledge all the goodness & the 'flaws' and love each other anyways.
you're right, the english translation doesn't really do what shu yi says justice. he says '不准去', which means 'you're not allowed to go over there [to him]'. he's literally ordering shi de to not approach/talk to the doctor...he jealous af. and also on your other point, the doctor asks shu yi to wish him success on courting shi de, to which shu yi responds '成功個屁' (what was translated as 'forget it'), and it literally means '[wish you] success, my ass'. boy's feisty hahahaha
