He was in desperate need of a smoke. Apparently, Viggo is constantly in need of stress relievers nowadays. Mostly because it had been such a busy time, first with the survival show, the holidays and exam season all rolled into one. The trainee was surprised he even passed December at this point. Alas, life goes on.
When they announced that the trainees would receive a day off if they participated in a sports event held by the company, Viggo jumped on the opportunity to join. He didn't expect to be taking part in anything, perhaps cheer for his friends and occasionally throw a ball here and there. He should have known better.
So he opted up to joining archery and mc-ing the relay with Yonghwa. It seemed to Viggo that it was the 'most' he could do without really putting that much effort in it. He managed to place in a high ranking sport for archery- something that both surprised him yet not all that much- while mc-ing with the older trainee actually ended up to be fun. Perhaps it's time to properly catch up with Yonghwa, this time with them preferable not in some tight corner. Not Viggo minded it so much last time, but at least then the older man wasn't sporting one a shirt.
His mind was a little bit all over the place and as he just about manages to find a discrete exist, suddenly a woman appeared in thin air. "Oh sh- Hi!" Barely catching the curse before it fully escapes his lips, "sorry about that." Bowing politely and taking the 'blame' despite the fact that he was the one who got snuck upon.
The young lady continued stuttered on a brave hello and proceeded to trust a gift into Viggo's hand. "Thank you so much..." Hoping that his smile came off as natural, mostly because he didn't know what to do in that situation. It didn't matter that he had already been in a concert or participated in a show, with everything happening too fast, Viggo still received a bit of whiplash with the sudden recognition from strangers and so-called fans.
"Ah... would you like to take a selfie?" Hoping that would make everything better, for both of them. Not really sure if he'll get in trouble later on, but if so he'll just tell the company that the fan wanted it. It wasn't like they were here to stop what's currently happening. After a screeching moment from the girl- who managed to introduce herself as Naeun- Viggo poses next to her with a peace sign out. Then it was only a few moments for another polite bow and a maze run out towards the back into a well hid smoking spot. A taste of a little freedom.
〈♦〉AUGUST 31ST, 2019 → evaluations. learning a foreign language.
↳ japanese x-phenomenon by monsta x with @rklino ( and npcs )
the last few months hadn’t been the best for mingyu, so he was really happy to be saying goodbye to august. after this month, as far as he was aware, he wouldn’t be having a separate and differing schedule from won, therefore he would be able to have some normality back. he missed working together with him and having him to help him with ideas, dances, and whatever else he may need. if he hadn’t gotten closer to minho and had him to hang out and work with recently, he thinks that he would have probably gone a little crazy.
trying to learn a language well enough to perform a song was difficult, so mingyu had been working really hard this month. although he really wishes to learn english in the future, he knew that japanese would probably be a better start. after all, if he ends up debuting, he would probably have to release japanese singles at one point or another, so it would be smart for him to take this opportunity to strengthen this skill.
speaking in a foreign language was one thing, but rapping in it was totally different. he had to be extremely confident in his pronunciation and remember the lyrics well enough to get them out as fast as he needed. there was no time for thinking or attempting to remember. luckily, the coaches and teachers had been great educators, plus he put in extra time and work to perfect everything.
when the 31st rolled around and it was actually time for him to perform the song that he worked so hard to learn, he felt more sure of himself than he thought he would. at the beginning of the month, he knew that it wasn’t going to be an easy feat, but by this point, he knew he would do well. each time he practiced on the days leading up to this, he proved to himself that he would be walking away this month with more knowledge and skill than he had going into it.
minho was the one who started out the song, showing talent in his rapping ability with his brief lines, then mingyu followed up shortly after with his first part.
it transitioned into the vocal-centered trainees’ parts and remained that way until a minute and a half in, when mingyu and minho had their second rapping parts.
they also had short lines at the start of the choruses, the last one ending the song.
it wasn’t as long as many of the korean songs he performs, the song ending at just below three minutes, but he still felt like they displayed enough to show to their coaches that they had been paying attention and working hard on this performance throughout the duration of august.
not that anyone is asking, but hyunjin thinks he nailed the emotional part of the dialogue reading. maybe not the romantic or funny one (he sort of doesn’t quite have that comedic timing), but hey one out of three isn’t too bad. he thinks he’s done when the interviewer indicates that there is more. but of course there is more, hyunjin isn’t even surprised at this point.
“oh, i see.. give me a moment to think about it.”
hyunjin sits, attempts at quelling his foot to stop tapping as he is antsy waiting for the questions.
‘what is the meaning of friendship to you?’
“i think friendship is important. it’s our sustenance for daily life. i don’t see how i could function without it, just going around daily life without friendship would seem ultimately futile. it is there to share joy and sad times with each other, and to support one another through all the times, not just the good times.”
‘would you say you’re an insider (many friends, deep social life) or outsider (small friend circle, small social life)?’
“outsider?” hyunjin isn’t sure. it’s hard to say, because there are so many friendships that he makes at the company, that sort of diminish the moment they leave the company and whatnot. one of the many downfalls of the industry, where broken promises happened where they say they’ll stay in touch but it doesn’t always happen, for one reason or another. “i have some very close friends and... i’m friendly with the people in my dorm. there’s some people i’m closed to from university and highschool, but relatively small social circle.”
‘if you were to describe your position/role within your friend circle, what would it be?’
“someone that can give relatively good advice, and want to help...? or maybe the baby. i’m a big baby sometimes. i can’t help it, around my older hyungs and noonas it - sort of happens naturally.”
‘have you ever lost a friend? and how and why?’
“ah yes, i... distance sort of makes it ‘happen’. even if we don’t want to. where text messages start diminishing, and phone calls and facetimes no longer happen, and then silence. it..... i can sense it happening right now with one of my former friends at the company. we’re both busy. i’ll try sending another message after i am out of this interview. is it truly lost? i think it can be saved, but it will take time.”
‘if you could be friends with anybody in the world, who would it be?’
“hmmm? this seems like a random question... can i be friends with tom holland? he seems to live a very cool life. yea. sorry if you were expecting a deeper answer,” hyunjin laughs. “but yes, spiderman. i mean, tom holland. he seems nice.”
SPHERE ENTERTAINMENT - AUGUST EVALUATION
Modelling crash course; Traditional Hanbok concept
Location: Bukchon Hanok Village, Seoul
Background image source: x
In the end, Moonbok had decided on his chosen concept with a coin toss after all. Probably not the most scientific or rational way to make his choice, but he’d long since run out of time to make up his mind on the whole thing. And besides, if Yoona did question him about why he chose this particular concept after all, he did tell her he’d use a coin toss if he still hadn’t made up his mind. So she couldn’t really scold him for deciding to go for a traditional concept in the end.
Theoretically, at least.
Even though they’d both ended up at the Bukchon Hanok Village for their photoshoots, Moonbok and Yoona didn’t get that much of an opportunity to talk once they stylists had gotten their hands on them. Before he could really get his head around the setting, Moonbok was pulled into a changing room that was filled with hanboks. While he was no stranger to wearing them, his family practically insisted on him and the others wearing one during Chuseok at least, even he was taken aback by all the variations for him to choose from. With the help of one of the stylists, he finally picked out a sky blue and white coloured one and was eventually persuaded to swap his contacts for the glasses he always carried with him in his bag. (Just in case of emergencies)
“With that book you brought with you and your glasses, we can go for a really scholarly look! I think it’ll suit you!”
After having found a cover to hide the fact that his book isn’t quite Joseon-era reading material, Moonbok is soon ushered into the village to begin his shoot. And it seems almost endless, standing in the street with his book under his arm like a scholar of old. Sitting under a tree (that buzzed with the presence of way too many bugs), reading his book and then staring pensively into the distance. And of course, the compulsory picture in front of one traditional buildings. Moonbok even agrees to a few shots of himself wearing a gat, his hair hastily pulled into a topknot to make it work.
As tight and slightly uncomfortable as it is to wear the hanbok in this heat, Moonbok has to admit that the whole thing is quite enjoyable. It’s nice to embrace a part of his culture he’s only really ever done in passing and at his family’s instance. To have chosen it for himself gave the whole thing a lot more meaning. (Even if he’s still being subconsciously influenced by the desire to please his family, still.)
In all honestly, he can’t wait to see how the photos would turn out. And hopefully his parents will approve of them too.
