Being popular in South Korea is the number one goal of rookie groups, but as K-pop grows around the world and becomes established as a global phenom, the companies have their eyes set on other countries to expand their popularity to the Asian and Western markets. Other than world tours, it’s not rare to see idols actively promoting in a foreign country, as well as releasing original songs or versions of their title tracks in those languages to attract more fans and attention. The number of groups booking international activities continues to increase and idols will be often exposed to different idioms during interviews and special performances around the world, so it is important to have some familiarity with languages other than their native one.
Throughout the month, all the five companies will be offering special classes combining idioms and vocals with their best coaches to help trainees improve their pronunciation. Teachers of the most widely spoken languages will be available, but if the trainee desires to learn something specific and rarer, those should be solicited through the staff beforehand so the company can arrange the lessons. If they fluently speak a second or third language that is not Korean, they are allowed to use it, but will be encouraged to challenge themselves and learn a new one from scratch (as well as may give them a few extra points with the coaches).
On the last Saturday of August, the 31st, a performance will be expected of each trainee using the foreign language of their choosing. This performance may be in the form of solos or in groups, as long as each member gets the chance to sing a few lines and showcase their growth. For this performance, they are allowed to team up with other companies. Dancing will not be necessary but may be added onto the performance in case the song has a choreography or if the person would personally want to, but at least 80% of all vocals must be done live.
