So I took note of the all the townspeople in this shot and how each of them will play into S3.

This is a collective shot of every featured character in Wartwood. From left to right, we have Pleakley Newt Duckweed, Stumpy, Sylvia, Mrs. Croaker & Archie, Maddie, Toadie, Loggle, Grime, Wally, Chuck, and Felicia.

But you know, I think someone’s missing...

Where’s Ivy?

You could say that she’s with her mother, but then why isn’t she seen? The animators did a pretty fair job squeezing everybody into this shot, even if it's just a hint. But I have scanned this entire image and I don’t see Ivy anywhere. So why could this be?

Well, we know that Ivy and Sprig’s relationship has been building throughout the series. Their introductory episode was specifically about two parental figures trying to force them together as a couple. And even though it started as a sweet little crush, the show has been gradually showing their feelings for each other evolve over time, even leading to a point where Ivy kissed Sprig and asked him out. (We never got to see that date btw :(

So I wonder if Ivy’s going through an existential crises. Maybe hearing what happened to Sprig is too much and she’s going to be setting out on her own separate journey to find him. (That would explain “Ivy on the Run.”) Maybe she teams up with Sasha to lead the rebellion and she’s secretly standing with her. Or maybe she just has a new design and the crew didn’t want to spoil it. But I do find it odd that literally every other character is here except her.

And now this ending shot:

Take a special look at the side characters here. There are three that stand out: Mrs. Croaker, Loggle, and Walley.

It's interesting they chose these specific characters. It’s not because of screen time because Loggle is a rather minor character. Mayor toadstool has way more episodes and he’s not here at all. And again no Ivy.

But remember the S1 Episode, “Cracking Mrs. Croaker?”

Yeah, ever since it aired, I’ve been wondering the significance of that episode. I thought it was setting up Sprig’s insecurities about being rejected, which would then come to play in Newtopia. But nope, Sprig did rather well in the city, even impressed a bunch of sophisticated college students. And it can’t be about Earth. Everyone is out of their element there, not just Sprig. So why dedicate an entire episode to a character interacting with someone they’re barely around?

I think it’s supposed to establish their relationship because Mrs. Croaker will be fighting to save Sprig.

Walley is clearly there for Anne. 

And that leaves Loggle, and sure he's usually around Anne too, but he's also had a few solo moments with Hop Pop. 

Seems like these are the people that will listen to Sasha first, as they have such a deep connection with the main characters. They may even be the original starters of the rebellion. Unfortunately, Polly seems to be left out, but at least, she still has frobo who we know has a big arc coming up. 

And then there are a few select others who will also have a big role to play. Toadie is the first person to accept Sasha and help her realize how controlling she’s been - so I estimate she’ll go to him first. And since Mayor Toadstool would do anything for Toadie, that will likely get him on board. And of course, Maddie is fighting for Marcy.

The great thing about these two is they have a special connection with Anne’s friends. So they won’t just be fighting for the Plantars (unlike the rest of the townspeople), but the two girls as well.
