If we stopped developing more powerful consumer computer hardware today, I think we'd be fine. We don't need more powerful graphics than we have now. We don't need faster processors than we have now (except for scientific purposes). I wouldn't mind if we just focused on making more efficient CPU's and improving the efficiency of our software (looking at you Microsoft).
