Nothing like spending the majority of my Sunday at an emergency vet clinic because Levon the Cat yakked up a hairball in the middle of the night, demanded his breakfast at the usual time when I got up hours later, and then 15 minutes after he ate yakked up not only his breakfast but a bunch of blood-tinged mucus too.
He was thoroughly examined and tested, poked, prodded and injected with an anti-nausea drug and subcutaneous fluids to rehydrate him, and sent home with medication to treat and hopefully repair a very minor GI bleed, along with instructions to get him into his primary vet in four or five days for a follow-up exam. Oh, and he also may be developing kidney disease and has a "not concerning at this time" brandy-new heart murmur.
Ah, the joys of being the parent of an 18 year old cat.
Did I mention I walked out of there with more than $400 less in my checking account than when I walked in? Cost me $190 just to walk in the door.
But just look at him! He's worth it. But I'm not sure how much longer I can afford to keep him hale and hearty. 😢
