The Wise made Foolish. The Foolish made Wise

"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God...Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe...For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men...But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and santification and redemption, so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."" ~ 1 Corinthians 1:18, 20-21, 25, 27-31

If I could post the whole chapter of 1 Corinthians 1, I would, but that would make a very long post. I find what Paul is saying very humbling. Once again, I am reminded of God's sovereignty in salvation, and in this world. He is just so great, and we are so very small. I think this passage speaks for itself, but I'll attempt to put in my two cents.

Oh, how foolish is this world. How foolish are we in trying to solve all the problems of the world with our human intellect. As much science and technology we have, people still die everyday, crime is rampant, and the weak and poor are still taken advantage of. No matter what we try, this worldly wisdom comes up short in every way. And yet, we still push it up like a god, claiming that education will solve our problems.

However, what does God say? The exact contrary. "Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe." The wisdom of this world has been made foolish. And the foolish things in this world, God has made to salvation. Countintuitive. What we naturally would think would be the solution, is not the solution at all, but rather, its exact opposite. Why would God do such a thing? Why doesn't God use the smartest, the brightest, the greatest, and the best and wisest things of this world? That makes sense, doesn't it?

But God decides something so radical, so drastic, so clever. "But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and depised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are." Wow. What a humbling statement. God doesn't care about your earthly accolades. Your eartly status, or positon. He takes the foolish, weak, and low, in order to show us that everything we have to offer is but dust! He humbles us, and shows us that He is the one who glorifies. He can take the weak and make them strong. He can take the foolish and make them wise. He can take the low and make them high. You see, we cannot do that on our own, because what we have is made foolish, low, and weak before Him.

This humbles me. This humbles me and says that "Josh, you have nothing." It brings me to my knees, in thanksgiving and praise for God has lifted me up, and what I have is because of what He has done, and not from what I have done. I wlll boast in the Lord, because of Him, I am in Christ Jesus, who became to me wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification, and redemption.
