Today’s 60 second message is on how to change the internal narrative and messaging that tells us we’re not good enough!! #wearegoodenough #lovingyourself #change #internalmessaging #happiness #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #changingthenarrative #believeinyourself #therapy #therapist #therapistlife #therapistsofinstagram #individualtherapy #couplestherapy #mindfulness #60secondmessage (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByIa5KYFAhu/?igshid=1mu5nzwsgkmn7
Honoured to have been a part of the first issue of @goodenoughcollege's new members' magazine, #WeAreGoodenough. My interview about the Port Talk I gave last November on Epic Theatre and Verbatim Theatre is inside.
Are we ever good enough?
We are what we’re told. Of course if we hold on to those thoughts for long enough, we’ll eventually begin to believe we are all of those things.
Depending on our upbringing, we either come to believe we’re good enough, or come to believe we’re not. There were times when I would fall prey to my own negative thinking and knew I needed to think positive thoughts, particularly when it came to my physical disabilities. Around confident people I struggled to believe I was good enough.
Now I feel differently of course. If I fall short of my own expectations, I use those experiences as a learning curve to build my confidence. I have come to understand, my life and my abilities; anything that has the potential to stop me from believing in myself. For that reason, I believe it’s important for us to hold on to nothing, so that issues don’t hold on to us and belittle how we feel about ourselves.
Regardless of where we are, we must continually work on ourselves so that we evolve and come to believe we are good enough, regardless of our starting point. There will always be stressful times where we begin to doubt our worthiness, it’s the nature of life, but having come full circle, I believe we are.
