An Open Letter to Lucius.
I don’t know if you’ll ever read this but knowing how awesome you guys are you probably will. I’m here laying in bed listening to Dusty Trails and I’m crying of joy. You guys don’t know what you mean to me and I’m hoping this letter to you guys will show you how much you guys have influenced my life. It was all thanks to Local Natives that I found out about you. You opened up for them on Terminal 5 a while back. Who knew that at that moment your music would affect me in such a way. You guys have inspired me to be the best me I can be. I remember when you guys had your Winter a Wonderland show in Terminal 5 I believe Jess said, “let’s not welcome the same year but a new year.” That stuck with me. I try to be the most authentic best me I can be. Struggling with a lot of things in my life you guys helped me overcome everything. Two of Us On the Run became an anthem for my best friend Ashley and me. Trying to achieve what the song means to us. Any time I was scared to do something I would say, “One, Two, Three, keep one foot in front of the other.” That would give me the courage to try something new even if I got tired I wouldn’t give up. That song pushes me to chase everything I love. It helped me while I was still struggling with my sexuality. I also struggle with depression and I remember when they prescribed me meds I was so scared to take them. I was crying and texting Ashley that I was scared. I take my phone press shuffle on my music and Until We Get There starts playing and I hear, “What do you say? Is this the time, for one more time at a happy life.” I just cried I told myself it was for the best I took my medicine and it’s the best choice I’ve done. I am so happy.
This girl Ashley that I’ve talked about she’s the most wonderful friend I’ve ever had. We made it a tradition to see you pretty much any time you come to New York. We are always happy anytime we hear you on tv we text each other and we’re just so proud for you. We love people falling in love with you guys. We both would love to meet you one day but until then we love you guys. We’ll see you on April 1st when you’re in Webster Hall. Also thanks for introducing us to Bahamas when he opened for you. I fell in love with his music and I wanted to thank you cause without you I would have never discovered him. I love you guys so fucking much. Keep on rocking.
Jess, Holly, Andrew, Peter, and Dan.
With all the love in my heart. Thank you for changing my life so much. Words will never describe the joy, the help and every small thing your music has made me feel and help me cope with. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
With much love and sincerity,
Gerald Ramirez.
