Matildas vs USA friendlies-take 2

We’ll take the draw but Matildas played real sloppy tonight. Waaaay too many stray passes.

The US had 5 players marking Kerr in both games. A strong defensive ‘brick wall’. Matildas need to find a way around this.  Servette or was it Juventus? had a similar ‘brick wall’ strategy against Chelsea in one of the recent games and Chelsea eventually broke through and won. Lessons can be learnt there.

Carpenter and Raso are super fast! Their speed  broke through the ‘brick wall’ several times but they need to think a few steps ahead and plan the finish. There’s no point doing all that work and then pass the ball to no man’s land. Lessons to be learnt there.

Redemption goal by Simon assisted by Kerr. It was a deflected goal but that’ll do.

Great effort overall though 👏 but plenty of room for improvements

@matildas 🇦🇺 finished fourth at @tokyo2020olympics Their best ever result at an Olympic Games! They did themselves, Australia, and football proud, pushing USA right up until the final whistle and were so unlucky to not take it to extra time with their never give up attitude. If they had I am in no doubt they would have taken home Bronze. Congratulations on an amazing history making tournament. You've been a joy to watch. Proud of our @teamgb at @olympics for giving their all and some amazing memories. Beaten by a dogged never give up @matildas who thoroughly deserve their semi-final against Sweden.
