WE(L)COME BACK #06 → “Run Away With Me” Zero distractions. Except for each other.
Once upon a time, we were going to do a fill-in flashback issue in the middle of the first WE(L)COME BACK arc that never happened for a variety of reasons. But I wrote the script and I’ve always liked it. So for anyone who wants some backstory about Mali and Lorena (back when she was Mali’s dad), you can grab the script right here.

Mali and Tessa commission by Jen Bartel, maybe my favorite thing I bought this year

our breakout character that never was
A small tribute to mark the final issue of We(l)come Back. Huge thanks to Christopher Sebela, Claire Roe, Jeremy Lawson, and Jim Campbell for one hell of a ride.

Think too long or too hard, and you falter, you stumble and miss your mark. You wind up dead. Taking aim, leveling a punch, drawing your blade - precision movements, muscle memory, wiped clean by doubt. A thousand echoes of the action, a vapor trail in front of the one light source in an otherwise pitch dark room. It’s all gone in an instant once you pause and start to wonder who it is, who it was, calling the shots.
Give the same questions to how you love and the pattern is consistent - you lose your rhythm, your game. Doesn’t matter who is in front of your, beside you - sequel or no, you act based on the now, the need. If the echoes chime in, let them sing.
But there’s something exquisite to loving someone across centuries, to the reunion after searching for so long, when you come together and experience an overwhelming sense of wholeness behind every kiss and caress. Star-crossed, fated, fought for.
I am myself and many, totality and complete, but there is infinity in that one moment when they smile at you just like they always have, through each and every life.
