Fun story: Today Addie was out of town trying to find new herbs to help with the kids’ health. She took them with her so I was all alone off work for the week. I took advantage of this time by making an effort to visit one of my cousins down in New York. I hadn't seen him since we had lived in Germany so I figured now would be a good time. I met up with my friends at a tavern before I departed to get their opinions on my journey. To my surprise, my friends were extremely worried for my health and safety. They dragged me into a circle and began to pray for my safe travel. Little did they know that they were only scaring me more. Benjamin Franklin had previously traveled from Pennsylvania to New York but it took him a whole 9 days. I was hoping that the same wouldn't happen to me and that I’d be home much sooner than that.
Day 1: I’ve been on the road for a few hours now and things are looking good so far. No trouble and no extreme weather on the road. I should make it to New York in 2 days tops if this keeps up and if I can push my horses to speed up a bit.
Day 2: First tire break down of the day. My horses must have hit a giant bump because our whole left back wheel flew off. We had to stop somewhere in southern Pennsylvania to repair. Guess I’m stuck here for a bit.
Day 3: The rain today is NOT letting up. My wheel was just repaired but the rain and thunder became too much. My horses and I ended up turning around and staying another night in the motel.
Day 4: The weather is still terrible but it definitely died down, safe enough for travel. We have to go slow so that the horses don’t get injured. It’s not much but it's something.
Day 5: Of course the horses got hurt, just my luck. One of their hooves twisted and we’ve been delayed yet another day. Leave it up to these rocky middle colony roads to mess us up.
Day 6: I was able to hook up with some new horses but they're much slower. I sent a message back home to Addie, hopefully she got it. I don’t want them to worry about me.
Day 7: We’re so close to New York I can feel it! I’m praying now that the horses will push through.
Day 8: WE MADE IT!!!! HELLO NEW YORK!!! Cousin Melvin here I come! 8 days! Beat that Franklin! Nature got nothing on us ;)
