I was re-reading Asmundr this morning before bed. Even though the comic is heavily traced, has a plot ripped from a 2008 movie (Outlander), and pages are still too dark, it’s not a bad comic. Fairly average, but it remains heads and shoulders above Home. I still can’t believe the characters have better facial expressions, more dynamic poses, and better lighting than in Home. More importantly, they actually care for each other in Asmundr. Remember when Jahla searched alone for months in order to find her aunt Niita, just so the latter could help Lifa? Kique forgot, but we remember.
Reading the original comic, it’s painful to see what these character have become and how little they now care for each other. It’s all about who can get laid, unfinished plots, and characters who are just selfish. Platonic relationships no longer exist as everyone must be paired up in Home. In Asmundr, the portrayal of female characters wasn’t amazing, but they had agency and kicked ass when needed.
No wonder Kique would prefer fans forget Asmundr ever existed. At least he hasn’t pulled down the comic completely. The contrast would be too stark if he were to give it a ComicFury site. It just remains in a folder on a shared Google Drive for people to download. The pages are badly organized because of course they are. On the plus side, some of the bonus art is there.
