Beginning

She had married him.

It was ridiculous, the smile that crossed his face as he stood in his bedroom. Their bedroom.

The servants had all been sent away for the week, but they had left a welcoming manor for their new mistress. A fire roared in the hearth and a new cover was draped over the bed, a vase of flowers on each table beside it.

He loosened his cravat and began to unbutton his cuffs, suddenly aware of his shaking hands and the nervous flutter in his stomach.

The door behind him opened and he turned.

If he thought the sight of her all in white as she professed her love in the church was beautiful, seeing her now in a nightgown of nearly sheer cream under a flowing dressing gown was enough to make him forget his own name.

She had taken her hair down and it fell around her face, shimmering red and gold in the firelight. Barefoot, she slowly crossed over to him, his heartbeat increasing with every step.

"I believe that's my job," she whispered, a shy smile on her lips. He watched her slip each cuff button out one by one before moving on to his shirt.

Her hands were warm and left a trail of tingles in their wake.

When she got closer to the button of his trousers, he caught her hands and stilled her. In all his own nervousness, he didn't miss the false bravada of his new wife. The high flush on her cheeks, the aversion of her eyes, and the slight tremble of her fingers.

Her gaze slowly lifted and he bent his head to brush his lips against hers.

"We have all the time in the world to get to know each other, my love."

Her eyes softened, her anxiety melting under the warmth of his love.

"My husband," she said in wonder and reached up to cradle his face, her thumb brushing against his cheek as her fingers slipped into his hair.

He turned his face and pressed a kiss to her palm. Somehow his free hand found purchase on her waist, keeping her other hand captive against his chest, and they began to sway. He hummed softly, the melody something he had been composing since the day he met her. He never could quite determine how it ended.

Now he knew.

It didn't have an ending. Because it was only a beginning.

The Wedding Caper

"You know she's going to murder you. Properly this time." John dropped his head back, wincing when it thumped against Sherlock’s. "Probably dig the hole herself. I'll help."

"Shut up."

John rolled his eyes. "I think I've earned the right to complain. I did, after all, warn you not to go. But noooo," he mocked. "Someone had to rush off and play hero the night before-"

"I am well aware of the circumstances, John!" Sherlock shouted.

A series of loud bangs hit the door. "Oi, pipe down in there! Don’t make me gag ya!"

John shifted and wiggled his fingers. He had about 2 more hours before the minimal circulation getting to his hands became a serious problem.

Hopefully, Mycroft or Greg would have picked up their tail by then.

"Besides, you came with me."

Oh, that's how he wanted to play it?

"Don't blame me for this, Sherlock. I was six drinks to the breeze. I'm still not quite sobered up. You, on the other hand, should have known better." As much as he could, he shifted away from Sherlock. A hard feat, since their arms were tied together behind their backs. Honestly, what he put up with for his friend.

"You seemed perfectly lucid when the case came up. You remembered every word to I Want It That Way.”

“For f...Listen you overgrown idiot child, if I’m singing in public, I’m obviously smashed out of my mind!”

“That’s it!” The door was thrown open and their kidnapper stormed inside, his beady little eyes bloodshot and angry, and his meaty fists clenched at his sides. “The both of ya are gonna have a hard time spekkin’ through fat lips.”

He pulled his dirty sleeves back.

“Excuse me.” A sweet, familiar voice piped up behind him. The bulky moron paused then turned in surprise and was immediately dropped to the ground, unconscious, by one well-placed punch.

Sherlock and John gaped. Standing over their fallen captor, Molly was every bit the avenging angel in her glorious white wedding gown, the lacey thing muddied around the hem but otherwise a vision of perfection. Her long hair was piled high in a makeshift bun from which a veil valiantly tried to hold on.

Sherlock's jaw dropped as he stared at her, ignoring the stream of NSY officers that swarmed inside after her, cuffing their captor, as well as his accomplices from the outer room. John knew that look. Sherlock might as well have a neon sign lit above his head that declared he was 'turned on by Molly Hooper’. The groom-to-be swallowed audibly. "Molly, you look..." He met her eyes and paled. "Pissed."

"I am," she panted, from exertion or anger, John couldn't tell. Probably both. She gestured at the dirtied, yet stunning confection of taffeta and lace. "Do you know what Vivienne will do to me when she sees what happened to her gown?"

Her brow furrowed in pain and she looked at her hand. “And that really hurt!”

Unbound and hauled to their feet, John groaned in relief as blood flowed to his extremities while Sherlock made a beeline for his bride and crushed her to him, kissing her reddening knuckles, then her cheeks, and finally her lips, mumbling a quiet, "I'm sorry."

She shook her head fondly and held him tight. "Forgiven. Always.”

“A lovely sentiment,” Mycroft interjected from the doorway, looking impeccably out-of-place in the dank, cold room. He checked his pocket watch, his eyebrow raised knowingly. “However, Mummy does not have such a forgiving nature. And you have cheated her out of a daughter-in-law today.” 

Sherlock paled just the tiniest bit. Molly bit her lip in worry. Then, she lifted her chin and clasped Sherlock’s hand. “Then marry us. Right here. Right now.”

Mycroft blanched. “Surely you are not serious-”

“What about the church?”

Molly looked up at Sherlock. “I don’t give a damn where I marry you. I just want to become your wife today.”

John turned his face when Sherlock swooped down and kissed Molly more passionately than was probably appropriate in a room full of NSY agents, government ops, his brother, and his blogger.

They finally broke apart when Mycroft cleared his throat. He rolled his eyes, but John could see the smile he was trying to hold back. From his jacket pocket, he pulled out a packet. “Then it was simply a stroke of luck that I have these with me.”

The marriage papers. 

John laughed and ran a hand over his face. Of course Mycroft brought them.

“John, if you would.” Mycroft gestured for him to stand beside Sherlock. The bemused agents in an array of black suits and NSY blue that formed their audience shuffled awkwardly behind them, the still-unconscious captor lay facedown in cuffs, as John took his place as best man. Mycroft stared him down. “I trust you still have the rings.”

John patted his breast pocket where the rings lay and nodded.

Mycroft cleared his throat. “Then let us begin.”

May I Cut In?

"Well, go on then," Mary teased him with a nudge, waggling her eyes in the direction of the dance floor.

Sherlock ignored her. But his gaze didn't waver from the couple waltzing in the middle of the room, the party lights flashing horrifically around them. The man was an adequate dancer despite months of practise under Sherlock's superior tutelage. Well, he lamented, the results were satisfactory for a man with the cliched two left feet.

But the woman...she was the embodiment of grace and elegance. Her waltz form was impeccable and she moved with confidence and poise. Her hair was braided in a fancy twist, pieces falling out here and there as she spun around. Her cheeks were rosy with delight and her smile refused to fade.

"Stop mooning over her like some spotty teenager," Mary continued relentlessly. "Go get her."

Against his will, his nose twitched in irritation and Mary beamed in triumph when he abandoned his post by the wall and stalked across the dance floor.

"May I cut in?" He asked politely, though his expression was anything but.

John slowed their waltz to a stop and raised his eyebrows. "Really?"

Sherlock glared at him and John smirked, backing away but not before kissing Molly's cheek. "Congratulations again. Though I still don't know what you see in that tall string bean."

Molly giggled. "He grows on you." Her laughter was cut short by a surprised gasp as Sherlock swept her into his arms and began to lead her around the dancefloor expertly.

Her hand rested on his chest and he felt her warmth even through his suit. Beneath his hand, her white gown's silky fabric melted against her hip and his cheeks warmed.

Abandoning proper form, Molly wrapped her arms around his neck and his hands found their way to the small of her back.

She sighed happily and looked up at him through soft eyes. "You said you wouldn't dance."

Maybe he was losing his edge. Maybe he was going soft. But as he held her close, losing himself in her eyes, he didn't care. All that mattered in this moment was that he loved her.

"For you, Mrs Holmes... I'll do anything."

30 days, one wedding

Sherlolly rated K

Thirty days. That’s all they had, a mere thirty days. Not nearly enough time to pull off the wedding of the year. No, of the decade, the century, the millen--

“Sherlock! Stop, you’re doing it again. Just breathe, okay?”

Molly’s voice pulled him back from the edge of panic, just like always. “Molly. We only have thirty days, we’ll never make it in time...”

She grasped his arms and gave him a little shake, waiting until his eyes were fully focused on hers before saying firmly, “Sherlock Holmes. Thirty days is ample time for us to get this done. We have the venue - your parents’ backyard. We have the catering - all our friends bringing something for a lovely potluck supper. And we have all our friends coming - John and Rosie, Meena, Billy Wiggins, Greg and Sally, Phillip, Mrs. Hudson and Rajesh, Anthea...it’s all under control.”

“Officiant!” he blurted out as the panic tried to resurface. “You didn’t say officiant, did we get an officiant?”

This time she stopped the imminent panic with a lovely, warm kiss. When she pulled back, he reopened his eyes and smiled. “Mycroft,” he said as the memory resurfaced.

“Mycroft,” his fiancée agreed with a warm smile of her own. Warmer even than her strong little hands as they caressed his cheeks. “Relax, Sherlock. It’s all under control.”

His smile deepened, and he turned his head to kiss her palm. “Thanks to you, Molly Hooper. As always, you save me from falling, even if it’s just falling into panic.”

She tiptoed up, tilting his head down so she could kiss his nose. “Damn right, Sherlock Holmes.”

Thirty days. They only had thirty days...and that was far too much time to have to wait to marry the woman he loved. “Molly,” he said tentatively, “what are your feelings on elopements?”

Victorian Sherlolly Wedding Art

I commissioned this from the lovely and talented artbylexie, and now I think I have to write a small fic to accompany it!

The happiest day of his life.

He’d heard the saying before, of course, most recently from Watson’s lips at his own wedding to the former Miss Morstan - now proudly bearing the name and title of Mrs. Watson - but had dismissed such sentiment as nothing but the trite repetitions of smaller minds. How, he’d scoffed internally, could any one day out of the thousands that made up an average human life, be reckoned as THE happiest?

Today however, Mr. Sherlock Holmes found himself reassessing his initial dismissal of the expression; seeing his new bride, the former Miss Molly Hooper, who was now Mrs. Sherlock Holmes, smiling up at him as he lifted her veil after the minister had proclaimed that he could kiss his bride...Yes, he decided as he pressed his lips to hers. Today was, indeed, the happiest day of his life.
