Chapter 21 - Wedding party

Riley's POV: The ceremony passed by quickly with no events and I was thrilled to  see my mother smiling like that. She hasn't been smiling since dad left, only fake smiles which affected both mine and Eleanor's childhood. Now we were in our back yard, where the party was taking place. The decorations were beautiful, the music was nice and the atmosphere  was calming. "Riley! Come here why are you moving so slow?! You must see my dress!"  Debby, my 10 year old cousin yelled. Did I say calming atmosphere? Oopsie poopsie, my bad. I was NOT having the best time in my life, thanks to my cousins. Occasionally, some family members would stop by mine and Nathan's table to tell me how much I had grown since they last saw me in diapers and how much I have changed and what a beautiful young lady I became. I didn't even recognized half of those people. Nathan on the other hand, was trying not to laugh at some of my encounters, and teased me about Jared. Only one time, when my great aunt came towards me and told me how proud she was that I finally found my match, that she heard about our secret Las Vegas wedding, and that she wants to see my kids. I was trying to tell her that Nathan and I aren't married and that we don't have kids, but she refused to believe it. That made Nathan crack up. "I am requested by the midgets, I'll be back in a sec." I pecked Nathan and he just chuckled. "What?" I whined, sitting next to my 10 year old, 8 year old and 13 year old cousins. "You are dating Nathan James Sykes!!" Meg, the 13 year old shouted.  Thank God the music was loud. "How does he kiss? What's his shoe size?" "Do they plan on making an album?" "Are you two getting married?" "I'm hypervelating! Is Siva here?" "Leave Siva, where is Jay?!" All those questions came attacking and suffocating me. I whistled as loud as I could to make them stop, and when they did, I finally got the chance to talk. "Why would you want to know his shoe size, oh my God Andrea! If they will release another album you will see, I won't comment on this. We are not getting married what's up with this question?! The boys aren't here, they are home. Now, excuse me TW fans, I shall go back now." I got up and headed towards the dessert table, and grabbed a cookie. "Mrs. Brownie, what a surprise meeting you here." a well known Canadian accent spoke. "Well Mr. Hunter, I could say the same." I smirked and turned around to see my best friend. "Austin!" I yelled and hugged him tightly. He laughed and hugged me back "Riley! You're taller." "Of course I am taller; I'm 19, not 12." I stuck my tongue out at him.  "You have a lip pierce!" "Yeah, something I got from Canada." he winked. "How is your life, Mrs. Sykes?" "Everyone thinks Nathan and I are married, what the hell!" "Chill, I know you aren't, I was just teasing my bestest friend, I'm not allowed to do that anymore?" "Oh shus." I laughed and pushed his chest. Austin was my best friend since I was 8 and since then, we were inseparable. We did pretty much everything  together: from skating to picking outfits for the prom, where we ended up going together, because none of us had a date. People always asked if we were dating, but we would just laugh. To be honest, I had a crush on him. Bloody hell, a huge crush, when I was 17. I mean, let's face it: you can't be beat friends with the opposite gender for 9 years without developing feelings. But I never got the chance to tell him how I felt, because he had to move back to Canada, with his family. He was a proud Canadian and moved to Lancaster when he was 10 (he is 2 years older than me). So after he moved back in Ontario, I moved to New York, started a different life and we lost contact. I also lost my feeling for him, probably somewhere in London. "Riley?" he laughed. "Huh?" I snapped out of my trance. "I said I would like to meet your prince charming." he chuckled. "Oh, sorry I was thinking. Sure, leggo!" I grabbed his hand and  dragged him towards Nathan. Nath gave me a weird look but got up. "Nath, this is Austin, my best friend; Austin, this is Nathan, my boyfriend." "Nice to finally meet you, Riley told me a lot about you." Austin said. The truth is, I only mentioned Nathan two times or so, and in this conversation, since it was the first we had in 3 years. But Austin was trying to make Nathan understand that he shouldn't be jealous, and I appreciated that. "Oh, nice to meet you too, Austin." Nathan said, visibly more relaxed. Then Austin stayed to talk to Nathan, while I excused myself and left to catch up with some high school friends. It was nice to be home and see familiar faces and places where you grew up in. A couple of hours later, I was dancing with Nathan, when mom approached me and whispered that grandma is out of control. "What does that mean?" Nathan asked. "Grandma is not....who she used to be. She is pretty crazy." I said and searched for her in the crowd. I spotted her talking to Nikki, my 8 year old cousin. "She seems perfectly normal." Nathan said. I was about to reply, when I spotted my dad at a table with a woman and two kids: a baby and a boy who looked like he was 5. Seconds after, he spotted me too, and called me over. "Who is that?" Nathan asked following my gaze. "My dad and his new family." I rolled my eyes. "Oh." was all he replied. "Aren't you going? He's calling you over."  He asked after minutes of silence. "No." "Come on!" he laughed and dragged me towards dad's table, ignoring my protests. Dad got up and hugged me, his new wife doing the same. "Riley, you are prettier in person!" she said. As you can figure out, I haven't been at dads wedding. Seeing him playing with his the kids made me angry and I ignored everything he told me. He was enjoying the time spent with his kids more than he ever enjoyed the time spent with me and my sister. "Riley, who is this young man?" he asked. That's all I heard. "My boyfriend." I replied. "I thought you went to New York to work as a photographer, not a prostitute." he laughed. Ouch. "Excuse me?" "Come on, he is a rock star and you are an ordinary girl." he laughed.  "Does he know about that year?" "That never happened." "Does he know who you are, does he know what the risks of staying with you, are?" dad asked. "Stop." I told him and began to shake. "What the hell?! Come on Riley." Nathan said glaring at my dad. He grabbed my hand and took me inside the house. "You know it will happen again, sooner or later!" Dad shouted after us. "What the fuck was that?" Nathan cursed closing the door, after we got inside. "It’s the past." I sighed. "Obviously, it's something pretty big from the past." "Can you forget the last 5 minutes?" "No, I can't." "Listen, I will tell you, but not today, at my mother’s wedding." He sighed "Fine." and kissed me. "But you will tell me. Promise?" "I promise." I said and kissed him back. We walked back to our table hand in hand, ignoring my father as we passed by his table, and sat down. I rested my head on Nath's shoulder, watching mom dance with Jared. In that moment, I realized that age doesn't matter. If two people really care about each other, they should be together, they make each other happy. Then, I heard shouting in the background and everyone stopped what they were doing to watch the scene. I turned around to see Austin yelling at me father; he was going to punch him, and I knew exactly why. I felt mom's hand on my shoulder, we exchanged looks and in the next second I was running towards Austin. "Austin, Austin stop!" I shouted and pushed him away from my father. "He has no right to bring that back, not now when you are truly happy! No right!" he was so angry at my dad. "I know, but let's not kill him now, when mom in really happy too.  Come on, let's go inside. And talk." I spoke calmly and lead him inside, but not before I heard mom telling Nathan "Sometimes I think Riley is the only person, in the whole world, that Austin truly cares about."
