🔲 Best Friend

Luigi immediately opened his mouth as if he were about to answer, before hesitating a moment and closing it, tapping his chin in thought.

“Hmm...Well, I’ve got a few really great friends!” he chirped, a grin on his face, “And let me tell you, that’s more than I could say before coming to the Mushroom Kingdom. Hermmm...So...There’s Princess Peach of course, Toad, Yoshi...Rosalina and I have become pretty good friends...But my best friend?”

That didn’t take too much deliberation, and his grin faded to a soft smile, his gaze growing distant. “Oh, that’s gotta be Princess Daisy of Sarasaland. I-I remember meeting her at this golf tournament a lot of years back and she was all proper and kinda scared me, b-but she and Peach were friends and the more stuff Daisy came to the more I got to see the real her and we started hanging out and oh boy she’s a lot of fun to be around, definitely not like your normal princess! She seems more like a person--n-not that Peach doesn’t, Peach is wonderful, but I...don’t know...if I walked up to just any princess I’d be afraid of messing something up, but she’s easy to talk to and she teases me sometimes but it’s all in good fun and we play sports a lot and talk on the phone all the time and I REALLY wish she could come over more often and maybe go on adventures with us, I feel like that’d be a lot of fun! And whoo boy, she’d probably be able to outrun both me and Mario!”

Luigi finally stopped his rambling to take a breath, then shrugged, “I dunno, I just feel like I can always talk to her about anything. And she makes me happy. She’s a wonderful person, and she’s gonna make a great queen someday, even if she doesn’t believe it all the time. I always look forward to telling her all about what’s been happening to us whenever she calls! Speaking of which, I hope she can come over again soon...”

“Well, I’ve only got the one sibling,” Luigi said, gesturing aimlessly with one hand, “A-and that’s Mario--everybody knows him, of course. Where do I start...I know I talked a lot about him the other day, but, hmm...What new thing could I say...Well, I remember when we were kids and he’d always be this troublemaker--you wouldn’t think it now, but he was! Not intentionally or anything, he just tended to jump into situations that might’ve been a little bit over his head--heh, he still does that now! He did a lot of exploring...And I remember when we were little and some kids were being mean to me, he found out and gave them what for. I didn’t want him to, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer! He’s always been stubborn like that, and he was always kinda protective of me. And I really appreciate that, it’s great of him, even when he’d have so much going on in his life that he’d think of his lil’ bro! But I guess that’s part of being brothers, eh?”
