I decided to grade the analysis "Campus Violence Against Women" by Maria Eugenia Martinez. This tittle caught me interest as did the introduction by being very descriptive of the topic being discussed. The information presented in the introduction is important in order to visualize the message being conveyed. The introduction also provides the reader with descriptions of the genres being analyzed. In my opinion, the author gave sufficient examples to support her analysis, though in instances, they were vague. Overall, I would award this genre analysis an 'A' based on the rubric. The analysis was well written and interesting. Though, for the supporting details category i would give a 'B'. Even though the author provided sufficient examples of the genres, to me they were not comprehensive enough. Needless to say, I enjoyed evaluating this genre analysis.

The genre analysis “Campus Violence against women” was very well composed. I have given it a “B” letter grade. Among the categories of the grading rubric all were given a “B” except for supporting details category which was given a “C” due to lack of examples to support the analysis of the genres, in particular that of the brochure.  

The introduction clearly states the issue chosen as well as the two genres that are being compared. The genres are both stated to be related to the topic of campus violence against women. Different forms of genre were selected to allow for comparison. One was a news radio story (ORAL) and the other a brochure (TYPOGRAPHY).   The comparison of the genres is easy to follow along with. Their intended audiences are clearly described. The purposes of both genres are initially said to be informative. During the comparison of genres in the introduction and under the audience and purpose section the student states that the intent of the brochure is to persuade college males to join their club. Under logos, ethos, and pathos very vague examples are given of exactly how the brochure is attempting to persuade college males to join their club.  For example the student wrote “The creator of the brochure made the argument that men should be more active in protecting women against violence by constantly stating the importance of the participation of men against violence.” The next sentence goes on to explain the topic of credibility without giving examples of how the creator of the brochure intends for them to become more active.   After reading the second student example, many details could have been added to the first student example to give a clearer depiction of the genres. Some details such as the voice inflection of the radio host or key phrases the might have been reinforced or repeated. Sound bites used to highlight certain points being addressed.  In the brochure analysis it could have been beneficial to describe details such as symbols, images, or the lack there of. These little details could have emphasized the effectiveness of the genre analysis.

Week 3 Post

The student example that I choose to grade was “Campus Violence Against Women” written by Maria Eugenia Martinez. I would give this paper an A, since it explains very well the genre throughout the paper giving good examples. The introduction of this paper basically explained the genre by giving examples that involved violence towards women in school/ universities. This paper also informs the audience about the changes that are being made to solve this situation by mentioning examples about it. In my opinion I think this paper was very organized and a focused paper since it talks about the two genres and did a good job comparing them even though she could have done better in that aspect.

     The student model I decided to analyze was “Campus Violence Against Women” written by Maria Eugenia Martinez. Based on the rubric, I would give this paper an A; I believe that the examples given were very well chosen to support the analysis on the topic, the genres were well developed, and the paper met most of the requirements based on the outline.

     The introduction explains the issue based on violence that occurs in university campuses around the United States. The writer addresses hat the issue can no longer be ignored by colleges and universities. The information that will be provided through the author is important because it informs the reader about the new law that will be implemented in campuses passed by President Obama; also, the club which is organized by students at school campuses informs others about the violence issue and how to help solve the problem.

     In my opinion, the student did a good job when focusing on the genres content, it described them in detail and presented them in an orderly manner. Provided enough examples and explained well each of the genres. Does a very good job informing the reader about the format of the genres.

The student example that I chose to grade is the “Campus Violence” GA on page 224 by Maria Eugenia Martinez. What I had noticed that was done well was she did a great job explaining her genre clearly throughout the genre analysis.

Based on the rubric found on page 221 I would have given this student a letter grade of an A. On the students’ analysis, I thought the genres chosen were appropriate and they did an excellent job addressing the specific points. (30 pts). On the supporting details section I thought it was well written and specific examples were given (15pts). On the comparison and contrast section, the student fairly developed integrated comparison between the genres. (15pts). The fluency aspects of the paper I thought were done well, as well as the students APA format (30pts). Based on the rubric and point system a total grade sum of 90 out 100 points were given resulting in me giving this students work an A.

 -The introduction seems to grasp the audience and directs them toward the issue of campus violence, mainly towards women. The introduction gives facts that the crime rate against women in increasing at an alarming rate. The author states what he will attempt to analyze his certain genres that aid in the elimination of campus violence targeted at women. The information given is important because he states that is a certain issue that has been swept under the carpet for some time by campuses in hopes to “avoid media scrutiny” but now since the issue has become an increasing problem the author hopes to share his genres that have to do with potential efforts to end this violence.

-In my opinion I do think that the students example does focus on the content of the genre and does stay on topic as far as analyzing the topics and issues that they genres chosen are attempting to convey. The gene is presented to the reader by introducing the facts about each of the genres and then proceeding to give their opinion on the topic

-I think that the student does give enough specific details about the two genres to convey each message that was being said by the genres. He analyzes the genres precisely and specifically and also includes opinion about them. I think that this General Analysis was done very well.
