One of the links that I had used was this youtube video “Bill Nye to Climate Change Deniers: You Can’t Ignore Facts Forever” in which Bill Nye, speaks directly to climate change skeptics about the realities of global warming. This sources includes many rhetorical appeals and goes well with my issue of advocating the major cause of climate change is the induced by human activity. Nye right away establishes his credibility by stating his profession as ta mechanical engineer, in which, to be one, you have to take formal physics and mechanical engineering, which is applied physics. He continues, “I get it, I get what’s going on. Humans are putting carbon dioxide in the air, at a prodigious rate and the world is getting warmer and there are various ways to see that the world is getting warmer faster than it has been before, and that is the problem” (Nye, 2014). The source establishes ethos by informing the audience of the physics courses he took, then uses logos to further support his argument. He cites facts about how the earth is getting warmer faster just by looking at the “neutrons in ice, pollen grains per cubic centimeter in the sediment of ponds, and the rings on the trees during different seasons” (Nye, 2014). Lastly, Nye’s ethos is further established in the description of the video. Below the video, Bill Nye’s name is followed by the title “The Science Guy!” (Nye, 2014). This also alerts the viewer that Nye’s field is generally science, which gives him authority to speak on the issue of climate change. These rhetorical appeals are specific to my genre by showing that not everyone has to be an environmentalist to actually see and know how climate change is affecting our planet and our health and that it is a major fact that humans play a major role in it.
