Possibilities
“Kill one person, and you can solve so many problems. I wonder at the possibilities!”
Those words sent a shiver down your spine, such dangerous words, words of possibility. You turn, to see no more then a child gazing wonderingly at the dead body before her. The body of the woman who had harmed her, done ill to her, the body of a woman who deserved the death she got. You smile and find yourself hoping that the child will grow to find her path linked with yours, a path seeped in blood.
Months pass, possibly a year, it’s so hard to keep track of time, and you find yourself in a temple. Dark skin with golden cloth draped like silk from her body. She asks for your help and how can you possibly refuse. Senna is a woman of the gods, serving her life with faith and grace. And here you are, a thief, an assassin, and somehow the saviour of the world, tripping over your words as she thanks you for your kind deeds.
You vowed then you would find an amulet of Mara, no matter who you had to kill or steal from. It wasn’t long before you acquired the item you sort and made the journey back to Markath, back to that temple, back to the woman with golden brown skin and a voice like honey. She saw your amulet and smiled knowingly, it wasn’t long later that the two of you were married. She wore those wondrous robes while you wore the wedding dress you stole from the corpse of the now dead emperor’s cousin (though this was not something she knew). The two of you move in, she opens her own store and you are both happy. Life seems brighter, easier now, though it is still often drenched in bloody and stolen gold. It was while you were in Riften, stealing from some clueless Argonian, that you looked over at the orphanage where you had once watched children leap in joy at the sight of death.
You moved towards it despite yourself, you and Senna had been discussing the matter of children, perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to see how they were. You stepped inside, glad to see their living conditions had been improved, and looked at the children. You saw a young boy creeping up behind a friend as they played hide and seek, you did would not help but notice the way the boy had casually dipped his fingers into the others pockets without so much of a hint on them noticing. You grinned, knowing the child would make an excellent thief, with a little training of course.
The sound of wooden against wood drew your attention and you gazed upon a young girl, striking at a wooden dummy with vigour. Something about the child seemed familiar but you did not place it until she spoke. You were taken back to the day in which you killed a disgusting old woman and listen to the sound of children’s joy as she took her last breaths.
You moved to take a step towards the child but another woman stepped in your way. The assistant. Ahhh so that was who had taken over. Well at least the children were in good hands. Still, little Runa would live a hard life in this house, her burning questions of desires so looked down upon would shape her into a bitter old woman, or some pathetic bandit. As for the boy, Francois you think his name is, his sneaking and thieving skills would certainly keep him alive, maybe even well off, but not in a town like Riften. The moment the guards saw him they’d suspect him to be with the guild and either kill, banish, or imprison him. You would not allowed this to happen.
You spoke to Constance, egger to find out if the children could be adopted and after a brief discussion with Senna you find yourself back on the orphanages doorstep. You enter, quickly seeking out the children you intend to call your own. You find Runa first, with that fierce look of wonder and determination still in her eye. You need not even ask if she wanted to go with you, before you can open your mouth she is begging you to take her. Without any hesitation you agree.
Francois s next and the boy is just as excited, claiming he will never step a foot out of place if you take him home with you. Although he seems somewhat reluctant as he recalls his birth parents and their promise to one day return for him. You realise the chances of this are slim but to sooth the boys worries you tell him that if they do return then Constance will tell them where he is and you would gladly allow him to go with them. He perks up and agrees, a life anywhere is a life better than here.
The two children eagerly pack their few merger possessions and are escorted to your house in Solitude. Despite the name Solitude is one of the biggest, busiest cities. And one of the best guarded. The children seem delighted in their new home and Senna seems just as delighted with them. It is not long before the children lose their nerves and play happily with the other children in the streets.
While you often find yourself leaving for work, there’s always someone to be killed of burgled, you always make time to return home, each time with something new for the children. First it was sweets, then better cloths from the best cloths shop in all of Skyrim, not long later you bought a doll from the Khajiit caravans and lastly you created two matching, beautiful Elven daggers in the SkyForge.
Runa was elated to receive that gift and hurried upstairs to practice before the words “and please don’t kill anyone unless in defence” were out of your mouth (after all, you couldn’t have her killing just yet. She need to be trained first and the last thing you wanted was the guards taking your children away for being a bad mother.)
Francois showed the dagger to his friends and wore it proudly but was more interested in rummaging pockets then training. You didn’t mind, so long as he wasn’t caught, and so far he hadn’t been, he would be safe. As Thane of the city you had enough swag amongst the guards to wave off any trouble he would be in.
A month later he brought home a mudcrab. A bloody mudcrab! And asked to keep it as a pet, unable to deny your children anything you said yes and the tiny pincher had grown on you. Senna kept up her job, Runa kept up her training and Francois kept up his pocketing while you kept Skyrim, and more importantly your family, safe from dragons, bandits, giants and whatever else decided to attack that particular morning.
As the children grew and Seena’s business boomed you found yourself with money to spar. You came to the conclusion that buying land a building your own family home would be the best way to go about spending it. And so that’s exactly what you did.
