Are you participating in the 90 Day Hair Growth Challenge starting February 15th? It's time to start thinking about styling options. The #1 way to retain length is to refrain from manipulating hair for as long as possible. Protective styles are meant to "protect" your hair from the elements, excessive combing and brushing, & exposed ends. Think full weaves, wigs, and braids with extensions. You can safely wear these styles for a couple of months at a time while being able to cleanse and condition regularly. Low manipulation styles are somewhat protective - - the difference is your own hair is exposed. Styles like ponytails/buns and twists or braids using your own hair count as low manipulation styles. You can go a week or longer before the need to manipulate (i.e. Comb or brush) your hair. Both are great for growing hair and retaining length when done properly. We'll talk more in detail about this in preparation for the challenge!
