‘Sword of Hope’ Official Account Incident
Background: Chinese film ‘Sword of Hope’ (轩辕剑传奇) first encountered a copyright issue because a game company that produced popular game 轩辕剑 owns the copyright of the sword name. (Incidentally, the film calls itself the Chinese “Lord of the Rings”.) The director and the movie’s official Weibo account then proceeded to dismiss the game and its players as insignificant and “brain-damaged”, which ignited further netizens’ fury.
Yesterday, the movie’s official account posted a picture, claiming that the director had some alcohol and cried, and that he was able to make this film because he borrowed from loan sharks. Furthermore, the post pleaded “if it doesn’t get good box office results, he’d have to kill himself”.
However, an hour later at around midnight, the official account claimed that itself has been hacked.
The account then retweeted a weibo post posted by the director (the director was angry at three strangers splashing shit all over him), and added “Director, please delete this post!! Don’t be like this, or I’ll quit immediately. Doing this job is too embarrassing!!”
At 1:46AM, another post was published: “Whatever!!! Upset, I’m not going to work tomorrow. Just for 2000 kuai a month. I don’t want it, this isn’t a job fit for a human being. Going to sleep!!!!! Stupid director!!”
Today, the official account’s only post so far claims that the account was hacked because an intern surnamed Yang logged into the account from his phone, and leaked the password. This Yang is said to have been fired.
Many netizens speculate this whole incident to be a stunt pulled by the director.
