Finished A House With Good Bones (audiobook) by T. Kingfisher and it had me break my rule about consuming horror media after sunset.
I love horror, but am easily scared, so I'm a careful consumer. If I have rose- and homunculi-themed nightmares, the book is well worth them (not to mention they'd certainly be better than the other dreams I've been having lately).
Kingfisher's characters are always complex, never shying away from the protagonists' flaws and exploring the complexity of the antagonists (though, the word is clumsy for many of these characters); where The Twisted Ones scratches the surface of such a person, A House With Good Bones performs an archeological dig.
The audiobook performer does a good job, especially with Gran May and Gail. She does a great job with inarticulate sound effects, too (the "mewling" sounds made me viscerally angry and freaked out).
Trigger warnings: body horror, gore, talks of past child abuse, abusive relationship (parent to adult child), references to racism.
