Australia has a system for people who are citizens/permanent residents that the government pays for our degree and we pay it back through our taxes once we hit a certain tax bracket. Also with applying to uni (at least in my state nsw) we sit a really big exam at the end of our last year of school called the HSC (or you can do an equivalent exam like the IB). From this exam we get a state rank called an ATAR and all the diifferent universities have different ATAR number requirements for different courses depending on the popularity of the course. Like undergraduate medicine is really popular and difficult so you need to get the highest mark (99.95) but other less popular courses like Education only require at 80. And the same course at a different uni can have an easier ATAR depending on the popularity of the uni and the course.
oh shit really?? that actually sounds so cool omg. however we just have our SAT scores up to 1600 and our ACT scores up to 36; i highkey cannot imagine the pressure of having to sit for a one-time test and knowing that i have to be effectively perfect or i functionally won't pass.
the concept of paying tuition back to the govt is actually really cool tho if it's dependent on ur tax bracket. student loans in the us have to be paid on the same time intervals no matter how much or little money you're making
