one thing i am always preoccupied with in the rosquez sense is marc-as-fan of valentino, because i think a lot of what makes them complicated kind of lives in that space… especially from VALE’S pov. becuase yeah there is this undeniable ego element to their relationship all the way through it, where when marc is young and clearly starstruck it’s flattering and something he’s used to and marc is clearly courting that by doing HIS moves against jlo (and then maybe less charmingly, against him) and maybe it becomes this sharp sort of knife that reminds vale of how he used to be dominating this sport but ALSO reminds him that his time is starting to come to an end (something i think marc is doing kinda deliberately lmao). and THEN there’s this tension later on, that i think is in small part about how they can’t seem to outgrow the box that their relationship is in. so it becomes like. vale inviting him to the ranch as an actual and for real overture at moving the relationship beyond just the track and taking them maybe somewhere towards real friends who can hang out outside of work. and hes choosing the ranch! which is this place that in many ways vale has used to bridge valentino rossi the Man with valentino rossi the Celebrity. its like a test at bridging the gap to see what marc does. and obviously marc completely blows it and refuses to let his hand of the throttle even once ! and yeah WE know a lot (NOT ALL.) of that is because he’s #crazypussybuiltdifferent, but i think VALE reads it personally. the element of oh, i’m your idol and that means you want to beat me. you want to BE ME… and THATS what means the relationship can’t continue escalating the way it kind of was over the course of the previous two years… like idk i always think about how vale withholds his true self from people and i think. marc putting him on that pedestal and CONTINUING to put him on that pedestal instead of engaging with him separate from competition (was marc even capable lmao) really, really bothered him lol
