Saruman’s plan was either to find the Ring and take Sauron’s place (preferably), or at least to be his ally, which would grant him a favorable position when Sauron won (or so he believed). But at the start of The Two Towers, literally every single character already knows he’s a double traitor. Sauron knows it, the Nazgul know it, ordinary orcs know it, and even their enemies have realized it. He drove himself into a corner through his own actions, where there were no friends or allies left.
What’s interesting is that this also means he didn’t even consider returning to Valinor. Which he could have done, even if Sauron had regained the Ring and won the war, and the mission of the Istari had failed. His belief that Mordor’s strength was too great to be defeated wasn’t the reason he sided with the Enemy. He, Gandalf, and the rest of the Maiar could still have sailed to Valinor, but he was so enamored with the desire to rule, and so blinded by his pride, that it was no longer a preferable option for him.
Apologies for the radio silence, things've been hectic and some of the highlights of it are: driving through like seven zip codes just to get to a job that's basically the embodiment of imposter syndrome, working two jobs for a hot moment there, quitting one of said jobs after management dropped the ball one too many times, catching covid and trying to walk it off* [*it helped that I'd gotten a booster not long beforehand, and even then it wasn't fun], losing one of my notebooks for over a month, and bouncing between hobbies like a ping pong ball in between grappling with writer's block.
Special mention probably should go to the impromptu road trip from earlier this summer, feat. me possibly seeing a high-speed chase irl [...which isn't as cool as it sounds, it was past midnight and could be summed up as "oh shit, flashing lights and sirens? better pull over- AND there they go" and, less than five minutes later, "huh, I thought this was a freeway, why'd I have to swerve to avoid oncoming traffic? Geez, that could've been bad if my reflexes were any slower. Oh hey, there's the police again- WAIT A MINUTE"] and...not much else, really.
The two jobs thing was brief but exhausting, and didn't help the writer's block at all. More like made it worse, tbh, but the road trip DID give me a few ideas [...that refuse to be anything other than bullet points in my notebook]
ritsu, you’re bringing candies to school?
When all my sanity's gone The demons are strong I put you through hell You know me too well And you bring me home 'Cause you always know How to love me when I don't Love Me When I Don't - Pentatonix.
What have I been doing lately?
Reading Japril fanfiction, obviously, & rewatching old Japril clips on YouTube.
Feel free to send me fanfic recommendations! Ohhhhhh, is there one where Jackson gets taken to task for is behavior after he found out about Harriet? Because...yo. Their conversation at April's apartment when he just assumes "until it was too late" - OMG, it left such a bad taste in my mouth. Also (I stopped watching Grey's after Lexie & Mark died, because...#slexieFOREVER), but does Catherine ever apologize to April for what she almost did?
Also - and this must be said - justice for April Kepner. She did not deserve 90% of the shit she got from the writers.
I do believe this is my magnum opus. I have never been more proud of myself.
@ouroboros64 for you, my love.
the stupid truth, is i’m so bad for you.
