Sauron. Sketch
"But Sauron learned of the ships of Andor, and he feared them, lest free men should become lords of Middle-earth and deliver their kindred; and moved by the will of Morgoth he plotted to destroy Andor, and ruin (if he might) Avallon and Valinor." "We had no temples. But now the Mountain is despoiled. Its trees are felled, and it stands naked; and upon its summit there is a Temple. It is of marble, and of gold, and of glass and steel, and is wonderful, but terrible. No man prayeth there. It waiteth. For long Sauron did not name his master by the name that from old is accursed here. He spoke at first of the Strong One, of the Eldest Power, of the Master. But now he speaketh openly of Alkar, of Morgoth. He hath prophesied his return. The Temple is to be his house. Numenor is to be the seat of the world's dominion. Meanwhile Sauron dwelleth there. He surveys our land from the Mountain, and is risen above the king, even proud Tarkalion, of the line chosen by the Lords, the seed of Earendel. 'Yet Morgoth cometh not. But his shadow hath come; it lieth upon the hearts and minds of men. It is between them and the Sun, and all that is beneath it." "Therefore Elendil went on. 'Dost thou not perceive then, Herendil, that Morgoth is a begetter of evil, and brought sorrow upon our fathers? We owe him no allegiance except by fear. For his share of the governance of the World was forfeit long ago. Nor need we hope in him: the fathers of our race were his enemies; wherefore we can look for no love from him or any of his servants. Morgoth doth not forgive. But he cannot return into the World in present power and form while the Lords are enthroned. He is in the Void, though his Will remaineth and guideth his servants. And his will is to overthrow the Lords, and return, and wield dominion, and have vengeance on those who obey the Lords." "The History of Middle-earth Series. "The Lost Road and Other Writings" - The Numenorean chapters
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I adore this! Sauron making the humans build the temple "of marble, and of gold, and of glass and steel" as a home for his husband, waiting for his return there! Melkor not being able to do so while the Valar are enthroned, and Sauron, "moved by his will", explicitly desiring to destroy Valinor, not just bring ruin upon the Numenoreans themselves!
This reads like something straight out of a fanfic.
Very tasty, very angbangy.
I love all of these so much!!! Very angbang indeed.
Another passage I love from the Lost Road is this:
But others say that this is the black shadow of Sauron, whom the Gnomes named Gorthu, who served Morgoth even in Valinor and came with him, and was the greatest and most evil of his underlings; and Sauron fled from the Great Battle and escaped, and he dwelt in dark places and perverted Men to his dreadful allegiance and his foul worship.
I like this because, while the whole "While Morgoth still stood, Sauron did not seek his own supremacy, but worked and schemed for another, desiring the triumph of Melkor" from Morgoth's Ring makes clear that OF COURSE Sauron was part of the Great Battle and was fighting on Melkor's side until the latter was captured and defeated, I've seen his participation in the War of Wrath be disputed in fandom. But here we have an outright confirmation that he was part of the War of Wrath. It completely contradicts the idea that Sauron did not work for Melkor again after Taur-nu-fuin and simply made his way to Eonwe to 'repent' without involving himself in the actual war.
Prev, don't even give me an opportunity to start on that… because this is one of my BIGGEST peeves with this fandom and its annoying tendency to make illogical assumptions and then act like they're explicitly stated in the canon. And it's just another proof the character these people claim to love and know ISN'T SAURON!!! Because he would never spend dozens and dozens of years hiding in some ditch like a total coward!!! He didn't even know that circa seventy years later the Valar would appear and defeat Melkor, meaning that he would have the chance to shine again. From his POV, he was going into exile for an unlimited period of time!!!
HOW could anyone think that the prideful Sauron, hungry for power, wealth, influence, and rewards, would be totally fine with such a fate?!
Even if someone can't read and decided to ignore the quote saying that Sauron desired Melkor's triumph until the very end, it's still so absurd to believe that he would be THAT cowardly and pathetic (even more so since those people usually believe that Melkor abused poor baby Mairon for many millennia, and apparently he didn't try to run away during all that time, but then for some reason he did now? Lol. Lmao even).
Elwing who looks exactly like her father my beloved. Dior clone in face and how it increases the heavy weight upon her shoulders but also comforts her, in that she can look into the mirror and see her father, in that she cant forget his face for it is her own, who pretends she is speaking to her father in the mirror. Elwing who looks nothing like her mother and it pains her immensely, Elwing who does not remember her mother's face and asks the survivors of the kinslaying what she looked like, trying to imagine her mother from these descriptions, Elwing looking in the mirror and crying because there is no trace of her mother, Elwing who wears her hair as her mother did. Elwing who meets Nimloth in Valinor. Elwing who has all the time in the world to memorize her mother's face
Do you think this is how post-Mandos Melkor walked around Valinor, greeting his "former" enemies and victims?
so many people will be theoretically anti-war and some may even pay lip service to the notion of imperialism being bad, they will perhaps go so far as to say they oppose the idea US occupation. and yet still they will genuinely be shocked when you straight up hate the military in a real way, in the kind of way where you do not make excuses for or lend sympathy to anyone who enlists. they won’t follow you there. they will invoke things like poverty and ptsd and when you remain stone faced and uncompromising they will think YOU’RE the monster. and not, you know, the people who literally knowingly signed up to be a part of the mass murder machine.
like people are always talking about poverty in defense of enlisting and I just wish y’all could recognize the very simple fact that the people in the countries that United States military members are voluntarily signing up to kill are often also living in poverty and then on top of that they are having to worry about being bombed and slaughtered by the imperial poor. Like it’s just not a good excuse to offer yourself up to the murder machine. It isn’t. Of course the United States government doesn’t treat veterans well. It doesn’t treat anyone well. What do you believe veterans to have done that should entitle them to decency not afforded to anyone else? I guess personally I’d rather focus on getting EVERYONE fed and housed, focus on opposing the systems that lead to these conditions, rather than finding sympathy for those who believe they are owed a meal ticket drenched in blood.

Plz?
I choose to do my albino Angband Melkor design this time as I already did my Utumno design before here and I must say... I think I got a bit better at it...
People complaining about fanon Sauron being depicted as feminine/twink when every multimillion dollar adaptation portrays him as some big armored guy/bearded man:
Dio worst nightmare
We Make Mist by Blackbriar is one more addition to my never-ending angbang playlist. The imagery the song evokes really brings to mind what Melkor's theme created; what Mairon admired and was willing to follow, and what they brought into the world, together.
