You know, the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that Fraction’s run on the Fantastic Four is my least favorite of the last 20 years...the writing is just truly bad.
I’m. A little worried about the fact that Fraction apparently thinks that terminally-ill people are terrible if they don’t tell their loved ones they’re dying immediately, without any time to process it at all. I mean...what??? It’s actually okay to figure out how you feel about dying and telling your loved ones only when you’re emotionally ready to, because you dying is about you and what you need and not them??? Of course you should tell them before the dying happens, but. If you take some time to process the news, you’re not even remotely a bad person. And telling a casual acquaintance is not the same thing as telling your wife that she’s losing a husband, your kids that they’re losing a father, etc. That just...makes it real in a way telling someone like Scott wouldn’t. It’s a completely understandable and very human reaction.
I also just LOATHE the way he had Sue talk to Reed. Yes, it felt VERY OOC, but also it was just...questionable that Fraction ramped the autistic-coding of Reed’s character up and simultaneously had his wife telling him that he was just pretending to be human, that he had no heart, etc. She’s saying, in other words, that Reed is emotionless and robotic or subhuman or whatever Fraction was implying with the first one. That is...ableist and emotionally abusive??? If any marginalized person I knew told me that their spouse was hurling abuse at them that specifically targeted their marginalized identity, I would tell them to divorce them ASAP. If Reed hurled sexist abuse at Sue, that wouldn’t be okay, and Sue hurling ableist abuse at Reed is not okay either. There’s no excuse for that at all. Let’s never have Sue say those things to Reed again. She can get angry at him all she fucking wants, but calling him emotionless and subhuman or robotic or whatever the hell Fraction was going for there???? Unacceptable. It’s not healthy for any autistic person to be in a relationship with someone who speaks to them like that, even if they are upset or angry. Especially, I’d say, because that means that that’s what their partner really thought of them all along, and YIKES. Get the hell out of that relationship now. (To be clear, I am not blaming Sue for this because I don’t for a second believe she’d ever say those things to Reed or that she’d even believe them, but I am blaming Fraction for his shitty writing/characterization.)
So...yeah. That’s why I hate Fraction’s run.

David Tennant at the Mary Queen of Scots European premiere, London, 10th December 2018
Okay the opening shot is not friendly to brains with focusing issues. I had to rewind because by the time I realized there was overlaid text I’d missed what it said. The 16 tiny channel screens in the same frame meant I was flicking my gaze from person to person and literally missed the entire giant sentence they placed over it.
