Such a disappointment, no matter how you look at it. I couldn’t fully enjoy klaroline either. That had no place in this episode and like you said, there was so much inconsistency about that too. She didn’t feel safe or herself around him? I thought she was more like herself than ever when she was with him. Maybe I don’t remember it correctly.
And I don’t understand why people say Hayley was killed to make room for klaroline. That makes zero sense. I think the only reason they killed her is to give Hope a tragic backstory for their spin-off. And Elijah’s manpain of course. Such a shame. And it was so random, too. Like this wasn’t a main character. These people are really bad at their jobs.
And don’t get me started on Elijah and how easily he could have saved Hayley and protect his new “family”. But he couldn’t be bothered. I honestly don’t understand what they’re doing with him, because not remembering and not caring are two completely different things. So yeah, way to ruin a very decent show. Well done JP & Co :/
Yes, it was like watching two shows, the klaroline parts were like from something else. And as much as I have bad memory, it’s not that bad; I don’t think it’s us, it’s the writers being unable or not wanting to remember their own canon.
Ugh, and even if it was to give Hope a tragic backstory for a spin-off, it’s still unnecessary, it’s not like she hasn’t had enough trauma without her mother dying.
She spent the first half of her first year away from her parents (though that time with Rebekah was probably the most normal part of her life and that says a lot!), then shortly after being reunited with her mom, she had to spend another half a year (or more, I don’t remember exactly) without her when Klaus had her cursed.
Then she and Hayley had to spend her entire early childhood on the run from the Mikaelsons’ enemies while towing her dad, uncle, and aunts with them in coffins.
And then she got harangued by evil visions and finally got possessed by the most powerful evil witch ever only to be saved by her dad, uncles, and aunt sacrificing themselves to save her by separating from her and each-other forever.
If that’s not enough background tragedy and trauma, IDK. As Kol put it, she’s miraculously well-adjusted for all she’s been through already. If they don’t know how to use all of that to fuel angst for the spin-off, not to mention that they can always come up ‘new’ family enemies and tragedies in the millennium of Mikaelsons’ history if they need, they are bad writers. Oh, right.
Yeah, I’m just trying to block all this Elijah BS from my mind as we go along, because it makes zero sense, because it’s not just that he doesn’t care, he seems to downright hate everyone from his past and that’s not Elijah we know - even if he forgot about his devotion to them and replaced it with devotion to Antoinette, Elijah was - unless in his blood-rage red door episodes - always preaching (and practising) temperance in dealing with people who were not out right his enemies.
As you said, he could have both protected his ‘new family’ and saved Hayley, especially since he can take on Klaus like child’s play now, apparently.
And since when is he dumb? I get that outside the house, he could have thought Klaus was after Roman, but he saw Greta was killing Hayley once inside, he should’ve figured something is not as it seems. I mean, even the Elijah who was utterly devoted to his siblings stepped in when they were doing the wrong thing, but now his new ‘family’ cannot do anything wrong.
But I’m with you, it was all for his manpain - just wait when Antoinette reveals Greta was a lying bitch and he regains his memory of his feelings. :/
Anyway, yep, way to ruin a good show.
