Okay, it’s rather a long story. Part of the tale is here
After all of that Misha’s charity, Random Acts, was looking for an Event Planner. I had some experience running @writerconuk so I met up with the charity director while I was at a Supernatural convention in Chicago to talk about what they were looking for. She was really nice and at the end of a lovely lunch she encouraged me to apply so I did. I got the job and worked for the charity for about 5 years.
It was challenging, rewarding, and I’m still friends with most of the people I worked with even though I left several years ago (it was an unpaid position and I got a new paid job which didn’t give me the time I would need to commit). Actually, fun fact, I got promoted twice in my paid job largely to the skills I developed while working at Random Acts. It really was a life changing experience.
Misha wasn’t involved in the day to day running of the charity. He’s on the board of directors and he popped into the occasional meeting and for one of the evenings while we were on a team building retreat but mostly I didn’t interact with him that much. I saw him more when I was in the fandom than I did when I worked for him.
(Me front right, Misha in the middle towards the back)
He’s a good guy, though. His heart is definitely in the right place and he genuinely does want to make the world a better place.
