Your character has just discovered my character’s journal/diary. Leave a ☱ in my askbox for an entry that’s about you.
It's getting to the point where I'm reflecting back on everything that's happened in the past seven years, and man, I've changed. A lot. Hell, we're nearing the final pages of this journal. Honestly, I didn't think I could keep it up this long. That first page there, the little thing I wrote on my first day? My grandpa still talked to me when I wrote that; I had seen him just that morning. Now, I haven't seen him since Christmas, since Dad always thinks it's a good idea to invite him over. And even then, we hardly said a word to each other.
I think, though, one of the things I wonder the most about is why the hell I didn't decide to talk to Dilys sooner. I mean, my best friends were her cousins, for Merlin's sake, and the two of us have so much in common. We're the different ones in our families; she's the Slytherin Weasley, I'm the Gryffindor Malfoy, and both of us get a lot of shit for it. I've always had Al around, but I think everything'd been a lot easier for me if I had just said something to her sooner.
We've had a lot of the same problems and a lot of opportunities to help each other since we became friends, and I'm almost certain we would've had even more, if it'd happened sooner. It never really struck me, I guess, to go out of my way to talk to her; I'd never been a particularly outgoing person, and especially since the Weasleys have a bit of a rivalry with the Malfoys, and Slytherins and Gryffindors aren't known to get along-- even though I'd already broken that stereotype on the first day of first year-- it didn't even seem like a particularly good idea.
Looking back on it, I sort of regret it. She's one of the best friends I've had, and she means a lot to me. But, I mean, better late than never, right?
